Arizona Chickens

Two for about $12..... they both have two nozzles on the ends and they have twists that point in different directions. My husband grabbed one that sprays out to the side and one that sprays up. They are both working great.

Those are awesome. I havent seen those before! I've been avoiding anywhere I can buy eggs. There are a few things I would really love to have but have to thin down what I have first...or hubby might kill me.

Ok...I was at home but the person that you saw was my MIL...my daughter played fiddle with the Heritage Middle school...she just graduated 8th grade and really wanted to play with her teacher today...the oldest lady in the group was grandma, then MIL and guy with brown hair and beard was my husband.....you should have said hi.....I stayed home with my son who is nine, fiddle stuff is boring to him at this age and I hear my daughter play all the time

Hi. . . .I go up there, mainly for the music. . . .several musician friends were playing. . . .your daughter is beautiful and did a fine job! Her teacher, (Kent, I think his name is) had his hands full riding herd on the boys, before the performance. As always, it was a pleasure to spend a bit of time at Sharlot Hall. . . .maybe next time i come up, I will see if I can come out to meet you and your chooks. . . .I was dissapointed with the "poultry" exhibit. . . .only ducks, no chickens at all!

If you want to see chickens...come to my house, LOL

Anyone want a americauna roo? I think it is a blue wheaten from Mahonri but I am not 100% sure on that.

If anyone is interested at all I will send you some pics but I wanted to see.

If you really want pics right now You can look at him on my flickr.com/smjacob account He is the dark blue and red colored one.

Shaun

I would be, except I've got a very nice Wheaten roo that I got from Mahonri.

In other chicken news, I've got another broody. My remaining Barred Rock had been hopping on the nest to 'babysit' when Jean took her break, and on Thursday she decided to go broody as well. They've been sitting beside each other, and seem happy to share the same nest. I hope that they can sort it out when the chicks hatch and/or I slip some chicks under them. I had another quitter when I candled on Friday, but the remaining five seem to be chugging along.

You seem sure he's a boy - he must have crowed!? He came from my Blue Ameraucana hen (used to be Mahonri's) and Mahonri's Blue Wheaten Ameraucana rooster. He will probably be a gorgeous rooster if anyone here wants him - he's a real pretty blue color.

If he has started crowing and you can't find him a home fast enough, The Stock Shop will take him if they have an extra cage and will give you $4 for him -- Pratt's also takes roosters and will give you $5.

we went to get some of those and they were sold out.

I have a few Ace hardware stores in the East Valley. I will go in search for the CHEAP misters today before it gets too hot !

Just got back from my BFF's wedding weekend in Payson ... had a lot of catching up to do on the thread!!

It was hot up there, too, tho, and the ceremony was outside!! Luckily the ceremony was only about 5 minutes long and there was a nice wind blowing. Whew! We dabbed at our upper lips and soldiered on

I am glad we are talking about misters because I have a question for you guys ... does anyone have their misters set up on a timer? DH and I both work full time and what we do is put some frozen water bottles in the run in the morning for our ladies and they seem to enjoy sitting on or next to them, but by the time I get home they are totally thawed and the girls are panting again

So I really want to get them a mister but can't just leave it on for 9 hours everyday! I'll probably go to HD or Lowe's and just ask for help, but wanted to see if anyone had anything already going.

Well i really should get back to work (yeah, right, my boss is out of town)

I have a stand-up mister in the run--which works fine but you have to turn the hose on high to get adequate pressure. Then the hose bib spits & floods my main "walking" area. SO--I am going to go look for some of those little personal misters at lunch.

I also bought some of those little personal solar fans on ebay for $1 or something. I doubt they will last long, but I wanted to see how they do---I figure I will clip one in each of the main "hang out" areas. I wonder how long they will keep turning... Updates to come, once they arrive in the mail.

Sad news at my house. Remember when I came back from Chicago & I had a few sneezers? Well I treated etc, etc, and all but 2 birds had recovered. Total hold-outs on the "getting better" front. Anyway, with he heat the chooks must have been packing into the shaded areas and germing each other up.

When I came home Friday, every single bird was sick. Not one was without one upper-respiratory symtom or another. Obviously not Mareks, but some sort of URI. I thought hard about whether or not I wanted to treat: I am kind of on the fence about medicating the birds--especially since I want the Alohas to be a hearty breed. But they depend on me for their health & welfare. The whole arguement took about 5 minutes in my head.

So-I started a treatment blitzkreig--force-feeding the weakest ones sugar water and electrolytes. Saturday morning I had lost 3: 2 teenagers and a chick. None of the chicks had presented signifcantly bad symptoms (sneezing, gasping, trouble breathing)

Saturday afternoon I lost Bitzy, one of the Aloha pullets. Bitzy was a fav---she lived on the kitchen counter all Christmas. There were 2 more I was SURE would croak by Sunday morning, but they seem to be fighting back pretty hard. I am afraid to mention the others that look "worse"---like I will jinx them or something.

RIP babies, I will miss you.
Dozer's boy

Bitzy

Jean Gray died last week of heat stroke, not the resp thing (I think)

Is it wrong to wish that the ones who WILL croak will just hurry up already? I hate that they are suffering---but it seems silly to put them down when they could recover, especially since I made the decision to treat them.

Did I make the right decision? I wish I were hard-core like Speckledhen.
