Arizona Chickens

Got a nice picture of my rooster Peanut today

Beautiful!

My 3 week old broiler chicks are mostly roosters. One of them started making noises that sound more like an adult chicken and less like a baby chick. When I pick him up he makes more of a bocking sound now than the normal yelling they do lol. Kind of a lower more threatening sound. He's the boss of all the roosters. Hopefully he won't start crowing before I'm done with him.

Eeeewww!!! My bedraggled Martha looks like a diseased porcupine. All these new feathers coming in and standing up like porcupine needles. Looks really painful and tender. Poor baby - not a happy camper.

The other one that has just a bare back doesn't seem to be growing any feathers. These are the only ones with missing feathers but there has been no piles of feathers anywhere so not sure about the molting or if the rooster has tore out their feathers since all the other hens, the same age, don't have this problem but some have their top feathers on their backs missing. Martha better stear clear of Roody.

Awww. Poor Martha. It does look like medieval torture, doesn't it?

Anyone interested in a Rhode Island Red rooster? He is heritage from Desertmarcy in Tucson. Just started crowing a few days ago.

Awww. I wish I could, but I've got to limit the rooster population. I have a Silkie who cock-a-doodle-dooed for the first time yesterday. I'm hoping that the Crested Cream Legbar eggs will produce a nice roo and I'll stick with that breed (and the Silkie, too). Someone ought to pick up this guy. I love my RIR from @desertmarcy . She is so pretty and personable.
