Arizona Chickens

Anyone know where I can get ahold of about 125' of wire mesh to build a run? I am looking for 1/2" x 1/2" mesh and 48" width. I will need about 125 feet. I live in Queen Creek and need a place for my new birds to be safe from coyotes. Any place in the Phoenix or east valley that may sell it in bulk? Thanks for any help.

What kind of bird's do you have?

This guy has gone missing. we let him live in the front yard, we did not want him to fight with our other rooster. he could mess up his comb. So now we have another rooster, a bielefelder. He is such a sweet dude. P.M. us if interested..

Maybe he just went looking for greener pastures? I hope he turns up.

Put the no crow collar on big boy. He is in the coop, probably very upset that he can't sleep..

:cd other chicken news;
Cheryl, that is sitting on the egg's from @moms3cuties
Kicked out a BCM egg.. " little BCM" egg.. It was cold to the touch.. So that one might not make it..

it seems interesting as they know which eggs to sit on and or not, ,, OR they just like the other better, lol! .... Who knows though, I really don't!

thanks for the update, keep us posted dear friend!

WHAT DID YOU DO THIS WEEKEND? I was supposed to go see @Gallo del Cielo, but that got put on the "to-do" list, and I tried to make some improvements to my temporary tarp pen roof for the coming rain, with some slightly less than satisfactory results. Ended up doing some major earth moving (burying a new septic system chamber leach field). That pretty much burned up Saturday, and I only got about one fourth of it done. Sunday, I chainsawed down a Palo Verde and mesquite tree that were right on the edge of where the next pen will go. Now I need to do some more digging to level the ground for the next pen. Glad the "work week" has arrived so I can get a little rest!
:thumbsup Great job. .......... YOU'RE HIRED To come dig up a couple my oleanders :tongue so I can replace it with some Moringa trees!

My Barred Rock cockerel has apparently decided he is now too old and "manly" to sit on my lap to snuggle. Instead, he lays at my feet while his girls occupy my lap. He did eventually move to the sunshine to sunbathe. I know he's nowhere near the quality of breeder stock, but he's still my favorite in my hatchery flock. He's polite, friendly, and sweet while still watching over the rest of the flock. He's made me appreciate Barred Rocks enough to seriously consider sticking with the breed and maybe acquire some breeder stock in the future from a certain outstanding breeder on this thread.
.......oh what a sweet thing it is to have a sweet chicken!!. I think that's a great plan you have!...my hatchery barred rock actually let me pet her today, lol, I think she's lost her mind!

I hope he does OK with it. I know it's quite an adjustment for them. If he only knew the alternative...

I just picked up a new flock of chicks: 4 barred rocks, 3 Rohd Island Reds, 3 Leghorns and 2 Black Austrolorps. I have them in my smal coop in the garage right now and am doing some revamping to my larger coop. I recently moved out to Queen Creek from Gilbert and now have to keep my flock safe from real predators. I called the western Ranch store and it looks like I will be spending about $260 for a 100ft roll of 16ga 1/2" x 1/2" wire mesh. That is a little more than I was expecting but it seems to be about the norm. I will post a few pictures of the progress as I go. Thanks for the replies.

Here's my first successful try at growing fodder. I recycled some food packaging, it works fine for now.

I used BOSS and red winter wheat from the Big Sky co-op in the first and just getting started the second container is just the wheat.
I just received my 5lbs wheat from amazon before i find out phoenix organic has "hard red winter wheat" I will order 1 bag 50lbs about 17$ "hard red winter wheat" I will make some like you did for your chick also I will try some wheat grass Juice.

Ah...the lengths we go to to protect our chickens.

I don't dare post how much I've spent on my new coop + run. The run is constructed of powder coated steel, which is probably why my husband LOVED it. I'm the woodworker in the family, and he's all about the metal.
