Arizona Chickens

I was reading this page above at the link I have posted, when I was looking up, ...courtesy of @ChuskaMtns my new orphington fancy chick's
and I thought it was particular helpful for those of us with small backyard farms on how to keep them safe from getting other chicken diseases.

Providing my memory hasn't failed me, :fl I remember our conversation about how you could use a cat litter tray to put a bleach solution in it for use as people go in and out of your chicken area. I think it's a great idea!

What do people think of using shoe covers as an option??
I used to use them in homes, when I worked for a part of Queens hospital in Oahu.

Most of the time when people come here, the flock is free ranging.. When we go to others we wash our shoes when we get home, or lysol..the birds and mosquitoes have awful diseases that pass to our flocks..

hi im in s.phx. had mine RIR, Barred rock mix, and something else. Since March.  they seem to be doing fine. just make sure they have shade, and put the water dish in the shade too. change the water every day, it gets hot toward the afternoon... i have 1 thats just ready to lay soon. . And i have 5 leghorn chicks now. about a month and half old now. . i still have them in the coop, im not ready to introduce em to the free range yet. They will probably beat em up. :(

I like the idea of shoe covers - wonder if you can make some??  Usually its kids that want in my yard and I just put my DH socks over their shoes and roll them down.  That works for them plus I just dump them in the wash.   Now I have to think about this a bit - it would sure be easier if we could make washable ones..........

FLip flops & teva's are, our "sh/7" shoes.. Washable..That's what my friend call's them.. You could use shower caps or Saran wrap..

Yea - I too have washable sandels that I use. But when kids come over, etc...etc - it would be useful to have the washable covers "to save their shoes"

How tall is your fence? If you have a high fence most chickens will stay in.

I have 6 foot block walls, one of them is the rear is my run, and the only chicken I've ever had get out was four months old and suicidal.

Hey all! I'm in tempe and need to rehome a rooster FAST! He's a cutie and doesn't have much crow on him yet but sure does love the ladies. Free to anyone who wants him. We just need him gone, quick!

Hi Fellow Zonies,

I posted a picture on the RIR thread about one of my 12 week olds, but got no replies. I was trying to figure out if this RIR was a Roo or Pullet. It is slightly bigger than my other RIR, but... I just don't know. Can anyone here give a hand to a total newbie.

Did you post on the Heritage RIR thread? This is a production red and it looks like a pullet.
