Arizona Chickens

I am not understanding your question. What information exactly are you talking about? They will lay the same color egg as a standard bred RIR, they are just not the same temperament or body type or color.

Sorry, I can understand not understanding the question. I am one of these people that gets obsessed with things, and do a lot of research and studying ( nerd alert). I have been researching RIR having been under the impression, as a newbe, I had RIRs. I was basically venting. Lol

Where did you get them? If you are serious about the breed, I would suggest reading the Heritage Rhode Island Red thread that the late Bob Blosl started.

Now that's a blast from the past! Mr. Blosl was a kind hearted man and so giving with his information. I had a few of his RIRs and he was always ready and willing to answer my many questions. He also helped me with my RIWs. Big loss to the poultry world.

Just want to say hi, new here.

hi im in s.phx. had mine RIR, Barred rock mix, and something else. Since March. they seem to be doing fine. just make sure they have shade, and put the water dish in the shade too. change the water every day, it gets hot toward the afternoon... i have 1 thats just ready to lay soon. . And i have 5 leghorn chicks now. about a month and half old now. . i still have them in the coop, im not ready to introduce em to the free range yet. They will probably beat em up. :(

Hi Fellow Zonies,

I posted a picture on the RIR thread about one of my 12 week olds, but got no replies. I was trying to figure out if this RIR was a Roo or Pullet. It is slightly bigger than my other RIR, but... I just don't know. Can anyone here give a hand to a total newbie.

Hey all! I'm in tempe and need to rehome a rooster FAST! He's a cutie and doesn't have much crow on him yet but sure does love the ladies. Free to anyone who wants him. We just need him gone, quick!

Welcome to our new peeps!

Beware where you get birds http://m.tucson.com/news/blogs/bird...11e5-93ad-0f4f808e1199.html?mobile_touch=true

Birds and eggs were shipped to 4 properties in Arizona from a facility in Iowa (not named in the article) and later became sick with bird flu.
Yikes! Thanks for the article. Scary stuff this bird flu. I'm still not able to exclude wild birds from my chickens' run, and when I let them out in the late afternoon to free range the wild birds just fly right in.

kinda bummer for me now :(

Just buy from someone local and stay away from states that have Avian flu.
yes!! :love Buying local is great! It's fun getting some from Desertmarcy in Marana! Nice sized birds and beautiful.
@ChuskaMtns you sell heritage breed birds as well, correct? Not hatchery or production birds.

on a side note, I still quarantine my new birds, usually for a period of atleast 4 weeks before putting them out with my established flock.
