Arizona Chickens

Found my first egg today - from one of the Leghorns I have. That's an awfully nice feeling isn't it? I don't know why I feel so accomplished when the pullet did all the work. I guess I should refer to her as a young hen now. I lost a couple of broilers in the heat yesterday so this mitigates that somewhat.

First eggs are so much fun! Maybe not so much fun for the pullet, but still...

Congratulations!

Ugh! The heat is horrible! I've been leaving a hose running in the yard so my chickens can cool themselves and avoid heat stroke.

Congrats on the egg!

Hello guys I have about +40 chicks for sale I have some that are 2 months and 2 weeks old and some that are 1 month and 2 weeks old. They are all $5 :) these are straight run .thank you and let me know if your interested

Mama hens are so awesome to watch with their babies. I learned a ton from my #1 mother hen.

I personally like to wait a bit longer than many others before culling my extra rooster...usually to between 18 and 22 weeks. If you want a "fryer", then 16-18 weeks I believe is the general rule, though I may be off by a week or so. I tend to favor roasting my birds to frying them and like a heftier, meatier carcass that requires more time to grow out before processing, but that's just a personal preference.

Thank you so much for the input! I plan on using them as fryer birds so that will be good :)

A great chicken recipe my family has is Buffalo Chicken dip! If you plan on butchering your boys, the breasts, i'm sure, would go amazing in something like that ^-^ It consists of - a crock pot, - 4 large chicken breasts - Half a block of Tillamook cheddar cheese (Or a whole bag of shredded Tillamook cheddar for better melting) - A whole block of cream cheese - half a bottle of franks red hot buffalo sauce (Give or take depending on spice preference) - dash of garlic powder - 5 shakes of Parmesan cheese. (From the shaker thing XD Optional, but I like i this way) Place defrosted raw chicken breasts in large crock pot. Shred chicken with an electronic egg beater ( Yes an egg beater, it really does work in 5 seconds XD ) Pour buffalo sauce, cheese, (bag or sliced up block) , cream cheese, and garlic powder over chicken. Set crock pot on low, let sit for 2 hours, stir, let sit for 2 more hours, stir, let sit for half an hour, shake on Parmesan, stir and serve hot on toast, bread, scoop with tortilla chips, put in a sandwich, mix into mac n cheese, stuff into baked potato, put it on a burger, put it on your fries. Literally anything! We do this almost every time we have extra chicken beasts in the fridge ^-^
Sounds delicious! Thank you for sharing!

My Serama bantams learned to crow this weekend <3 Their names are Jack and Behemoth.

Cant wait to show the next year in fair! Also, will be joining the Tucson Pigeon, Poultry, and Fancy Foul club as well, so will hopefully be showing shortly ^-^

My 6 week old BL polish and 4 week old SL Wyandotte are doing well, Though Dory (The Polish) ended up getting her head caught between 2 layers of chicken wire, and she ripped a few feathers on he =r neck out, and broke a few on her head last Thursday. She is all well and fine now, and they are growing back with no extra bleeding, bruising, or pain, and she has acted normal since the incident. ^-^

Winnie (The wyandotte) is starting to form her lacing, and "big - girl" feathers, though she is quite a mouthy little chook...... lets hope she isn't a rooster XD I need hens at home like you would not believe.

All my original hens are doing wonderfully in egg production, but my Silkie hen has gone broooooddyyyyyyyyy. On a lighter note I have seperated her from everyone and put her in her own little "brooody chook" pen, where they are required to be under the egg boxes, but unable to get into them. Take that you saucy little wench! Really though, I do lov her lots, but she needs to not be so broody.....

The Jubilee orphington has not laid an egg yet, and my dad is starting to think she will never lay. I think she's just lazy XD
