Arizona Chickens

Yeah production is down here as well. Short days and first hard molt are the primary reasons here. Production from all the adult hens is down but my EE girls are in full go mode as they just started a month or so ago.
As for flight, my wyandottes have short wings and don't do much but the batch of EEs all have a much longer wing structure and are somewhat more flighty. Seems that the longer wing as well as the birds with a narrower body are more flighty in general.
Just my casual observation.

Is anyone Else having problems with egg production? I have over 25 chickens, and I'm only getting 0-2 eggs a day. I Feed them regularly and I always make sure that they have good water and a clean living condition. Is there something else that I should be doing that will make their egg production rise?

It's probably the change in the weather, plus the days starting to grow shorter.

I too have reduced egg production but I also have some tree dwellers (happened when I was down with a surgery that took a long time to recover) who are not getting artificial light. Hopefully I'll feel well enough to get some light to them soon. Never makes me happy to be under the weather even when I know it will happen. If I keep up like this I feel like I'll need to get rid of my flock. Trying had to avoid this.
Feel better. I know how it goes.

Yep, egg laying is off here too...has been for a bit.

I also have +15 hens and i only get 1-2 eggs a day sometimes 0

, i think it's because of the weather . hopefully they start laying soon ,i also have about 6-10 pullets that are about 2 months away from laying

I have 24 birds of laying age. 11 of them are pullets so they should be laying well all winter. Not this year. A few weeks ago I was getting 12-18 eggs/day. Now I am getting 3-5.

In previous years laying would slow down in winter but this slowdown is extreme for my birds. I suspect it is because I worked another line of birds into my flock, and that line has a higher tendency to stop laying in the winter. Should have paid more attention when the breeder I got the other line from kept talking about having to use lights in the winter. Duh. Now I know. I don't use lights and have no intention of beginning to use them. I want birds that don't need artificial light to lay, whether they meet the breed standard or not. We'll see what happens next spring. I might have chicks. I might not. Pity I sold several of my pullets from the original line before I figured that out. So it goes.

My birds are all the same breed, but they come from two different lines. The original line I had was always respectful of fencing and they never got into my garden. The other line is flighty. They don't think twice about perching up high, and they have no problems getting over my garden fence to raid the veggies. Unfortunately they have taught the original girls how to get into the garden. It is now a constant challenge, because they have figured out how to get over/around everything I have rigged up so far. Whoever said chickens were stupid didn't know what they were talking about.

Java's right? I had no idea they were such good fliers!

Yes, Black Javas. My original birds were from Duane Urch. They could fly, but were much happier on the ground. And they respected my fencing. Then I got some javas from Dan Pennington. His birds are totally different. They kept getting over the 4' fence between yards. Turns out they were staging that flight from the compost bin, so I raised the fencing and blocked that flight path. They still roost on a beam that is over 6' high. I think the older hens get up there in two stages, flying up from the main roost that is about 3' high. But still, it's kind of annoying because I would rather they roosted on the "official" roost where it's easier for me to check them at night.
Maybe they go high so I DON'T check them at night, and they can poop on my head if I try.

Marcus my rock star chicken is looking for a new home.
I have a beautiful silver laced polish 8 week old cockerel that I can't keep. My daughter raises show chickens and it's usually not a problem if we get a roo once in a while because she sells them at the county fair in the Spring. He started crowing at 8 weeks old so we can't keep him. I am willing to drive him out to a new home for free. All I ask is that I can see where he will be living. He is so sweet and kind to our pullets
