Thank you all in advance

I have some chicks hatching on New Years, and there might be some splash boys in it. You would have to wait for him to grow up.

Yes, I do. Australorps are the only breed that I had decided to go with. You can send me a PM here if you want to talk to me about the chicks.

Some of my most photogenic chicks from this latest hatch. They're now a week old. They grow up so dang fast!

The warrior. Gotta love that face paint.

The quiet, dignified one:

The preen queen. She LOVES her new wing feathers.

The perfect poser:

The "does this pose make my butt look big?" chick:

And the Khaki lover:

They have to grow up fast if you want some eggs and to be able to breed them. Mine are getting close to hatch time now, and I am trying not to live over the top of the incubator.

So cute! The dignified one looks like he's got a little horn in his beak. Hope the warrior keeps the face paint. Such fun for you.

Is this just an extreme molt?
This is the worst I've ever seen any chicken, and the "coldest" time of year seems a strange time to go into molt...

Has anyone seen a molt that looked like this before???
Another hen also looked bad, but this is much worse with the bare backside

Yep, this is a molt ^^

Oddly enough, chickens molt in the cold months, so that they can take a break from laying and regenerate beautiful new feathers at the same time.

My Jubilee Orphington and Easter Egger pullet look just like this right now.

My barred rocks are getting there.

Your birds should be fine ^^

(If you are concerned about them getting cold, maybe think ab out investing in chicken sweaters! real thing for birds missing feathers in cold times from molt or injury)
