Heading out your way EARLY tomorrow morning! I set up four interviews and I'm very excited. The weather in the northeast has been rainy, cloudy, and cold. I'm looking forward to the sunshine and nice weather! I'll be visiting Cave Creek, Prescott Valley, Scottsdale, Glendale, Tempe, and Surprise. Seems like some beautiful areas!
Not that you asked but my family and I are full time RV'ers and have parked in each of those areas for an extended amount of time. Prescott Valley would have to get my vote if we were voting. Much much smaller than Phoenix and the people are so nice up there. So much we extended our stay up there to have our son. There's only like 40,000 people in PV I think.
Quick story and then I'll move on. When my wife was preggers she sent me downtown Prescott (separate city) to get her some fudge. I mentioned that my wife was pregnant and she asked if I wanted her to wrap the walnut fudge for her. She did and the wife loved it. About 2 weeks later my wife went to the fudgery and the girl asked if she liked the wrapping job and fudge. You won't find that in Phoenix.
On another note we are moving and I am counting down the days until I can start a flock again. My wife's first day at work is April 17th so it's coming quick. Her job is in Big Stone Gap, Va. There's a movie about it on Netflix with Ashley Judd. Nifty little community of 4,000.
We are selling our big diesel truck (sold actually) and are in the process of selling our 5th wheel and my motorcycle. Doing all of this in under 3 weeks has been challenging but I work better under pressure.
We'll be stopping in mid America to pick up our Idaho Pasture Pigs. 2 Breeding pairs for myself and a set for someone in NC. I actually sold the truck to a guy in NC and am getting paid to deliver it so I figured why not. We will haul our new to us vehicle or a uhaul to Va., unload the pigs, luggage and dogs and continue onto NC. Deliver the pigs and truck to their new owners and return to Big Stone Gap. Long winded I know but I figured some people here would want to follow this kind of journey. Should be fun.
(Off topic: Can't remember her name but has the lady who used to be in Phoenix and was traveling with her chickens in the bed of her truck checked in?)
Thinking about throwing a bale of hay or two in the bed of the truck with an open dog crate for a shelter if they want and then a hog panel covering the bed so they could jump out. Think this would be the best way? Also I'd put 2x10's or so up across the inside of the bed as to act like baffles for when I hit brakes or something. ?? If I just kept them in a crate they'd be poo covered and stressed is my thought. I think it's 8 hours from pick up to my place with the pigs. I then am going back a few weeks later to get another Breeding Pair (or two) to bring back to BSG.
Funny thing is we don't even know where we'll be staying when we get there yet. We are so crazy. Just pick up and go. First thing I will do after I get the pigs settled is get my coop and Delawares going.
Just had to share with my chicken people. Looked for a Va. page but if the one I found was it, it was a dead page. Guess I'll just have to rejoin this group. Finally getting chickens again is a good feeling and I won't be in envy every time I come back to this site.
