Arizona Chickens

Here are my Fair photos!!

Quinn got one of the best Barred Plymouth Rock scores, the fat little thing looked great with all those extra pounds on her. AND WHO SAID you have to be skinny to be beautiful? because whoever they are they're WRONG

DOBBIEEEEE she got a red, and even though she was the only speckled sussex, *sighs* she didn't make the cut due to the fact that her tail feathers didn't grow in fast enough after a molt. GOSH HECKING SNOOTING

Honk Got a red due to tail angle, however in Open she got best continental? eehhhhhhhhhh

My benny boy got a red as well, a black crested white beat him to the win -_-

Winnie was SO done with fair, but she got a red!

Oh my Bo boy, he got a Red in showmanship, and a Red in breed standard.

LITTLE MY BABY MY GIRL MY WONDERFUL LITTLE FULL OF PISS 'N' VINEGAR CHILD she got a best in breed and a blue!! (she was VERY close to best in class but a beautiful silkie beat her to it)

Nathaniel gto a red in showmanship, and Gladys got a red in egg laying.

Congrats on your chickens winning!

Today is my hatch day on my 5 remaining Australorp eggs in my incubator. The first one is now trying to peek out of it's shell. It's looking like a darker color, so maybe it will be the Black Australorp pullet that I am hoping for?

Edit: A little bit more of the chick is showing now, and it's head is starting to dry. It's not a Black, but another Blue Australorp.

Refresh my memory, why do you need a black?

I need a couple more black Australorp pullets to breed to the blue Australorp cockerel that I saved from my New Years Day hatch. The Blue cockerel is from out of my Splash Australorp rooster. Now, I want to breed the Blue cockerel to any Black pullets from this hatch to work towards improving the feather lacing on any Blue chicks that will someday hatch out of them.

Ah, I see. I need to post some a pic soon of that blue pullet I got from Privett. She has some beautiful lacing going on, although, she's in the middle of molting into her next plummage phase so looks a little rough at the moment. I have one cockerel that looks like he's going to be a very dark blue. I've been calling him Gunner because he looks like a dark gun metal grey to me instead of black. He's one of the more friendly ones too. I may be looking for a home for him, though, because he's not what I want and I already have too many keeper roosters.

Well as you know, my Splash rooster had the splash hen and some blue hens. He was my start up rooster. Splash cannot color genetically make any blacks. I used him to get more Blues from out of my Blue Hens. I sold him to my next door neighbor who loved his looks. Then I bred a Blue Australorp rooster to my Black Australorp hen, to try to get some darker Blues and Blacks. This match is what my 5 eggs that are hatching are from. You have to put Blues back to the Blacks to get darker feather lacing in the Blues according to what Kurt told me. Now that rooster is back to living next door with my old Splash rooster. lol

I also have 2 Splash Australorp cockerels here from the New Years Day hatch that could help someone to make more Blues if put with the Black Australorp hens or even the Blue hens, to improve the looks of the hatchery ones and to work with more colors in the breed.

I have an egg bound hen, I believe. She has all the symptoms except her bottom is so swollen I can't actually feel the egg in there. I gave her crushed tums with yogurt, several epsom salt soaks and kept her in a cool dark place (my bathroom) last night. Now I'm afraid to go into my bathroom for fear she didn't make it... If she is alive, what else can I do?

You're doing more than I could have done for my poor eggbound silkie.

keep doing what you're doing, and keep her comfortable!!

lots of water, it help to flush the system as well.

that and prayers, those always seem to help.

Is she lethargic? in this image she looks rather bright eyed.

So im an artistm I follow other artists, I tend to stalk a few specific artists because they are amazing.

well I was on Tumblr the other day and one of my favorite MLP artists, (yes, this stands for My Little Pony, im shameless) was posting about her life in general. She is a teacher and lives on her own, and her neighboos recently pbained/bought a rooster.

they already had a hen with about 18 babies and im sure a freidnw as like

"heres a cock"

so anyway she was explaining the rooster, and her exact quote was

"I call him Señor Chingado Estúpido, because he is indeed a stupid f*ck"

this both struck me as hilarious and then made me want to explain roosters to her XD

which I can understand part of her annoyance, roosters are not allowed in her subdivision, and this rooster is pretty agressive towards her when she goes outside or near the property, and like all roosters, this Señor Chingado Estúpido crows all day every day.

and the name honestly made me laugh because I can just imagine some bootlegging dressed long legged game in spurred boots and a curled mustache slinging some annoying crows/kicks in her direction.

However this artist has never really had experience with chickens besides this, I felt the need to cradle her poor face and say "Its okay, it's natural, you'll live through this, chickens aren't evil"

(TO BE ADDED: I will be draing this Señor Chingado Estúpido later on, mark my words)

Not lethargic, eats well. She's alpha so I doubt she'll show she's down until she dies. But her abdomen is so swollen and she didn't poop at all during the night. More baths, tums and yogurt today.

BC (before chickens) I would never have believed that one day I'd be oiling a chicken's vent...
