Arizona Chickens

You could use a towel or some sort of rag over their head then, if not your hand. Mine haven't bit me yet when I moved them. I just got 2 of the 8 week old Blue Australorps out of my large wire dog crate the I use for my chick grow out pen yesterday afternoon when @Zchickens1269 came here to get them. I got them out then handed them to her to put in her box that she brought. My rooster was watching but never bothered us.
It wouldn't bother me if they were smaller, but they stand about a foot tall when they stretch their necks, so they are pretty big and no longer the little cute chicks out of the shipping box.

I'm still concerned about one RIR with the long, curved tail feathers. I'm watching it everyday, looking for those sickle(?) feathers at the back. If it turns out to be a roo, he's outta here FREE to a good home.

i got Colombian wyandotts pic below first they sure are the eye candy , but are just ok layers 180 to 260 eggs a year plus they were winner of the worlds fair in the US, i think during the turn of the century , they are sweet beautiful and good tempered, but i didnt get any more so instead i went for the Delawares with what same similar coloring & because they are better layers for my egg business, so if your not concerned with the amount of eggs you will get i highly recommend Colombian wyandotts if you like the coloring on the Delawares , the Colombian wyandotts look the same , but the Colombian wyandotts are even more freaken gorgeous . Oand this Colombian wyandotts hes is named eye candy...lol... View attachment 1254112 View attachment 1254113
Yes, I couldn't remember all the breeds, but the Colombian was my second choice, but also sold out.

Why don't you post a pic of that one here of the head part where we can see the comb and wattles, and then get a side view of the end of the bird back in the tail area? Maybe one of us will be able to help tell you.

There are three of them, all different sizes. The smallest #1 has a tiny comb and its tail sorta points downward. The next largest #2 has a short semi-raised tail and a Huge comb. The largest one #3 has a smaller comb than #2, but has an extremely upright tail with a long tail feather that curves down.

I haven't noticed anything different about the wattles, but the comb is definitely smaller than #2.

Because of the minimum number of the large hatcheries, I went with MyPetChicken. I ordered a dozen for fear that some of them would die in transit, possibly leaving me with a reasonable number and would get a refund, but they ALL survived.

Now I have 12 chickens and a coop that's too small. That shouldn't be an issue because they most likely will hang out in the run with our beautiful weather and just go in the coop to lay eggs and roost. The roosts will accommodate 12-18 hens.
