Arizona Chickens

I use DE and it seemed to help.

Anyone know if Green Mango organic spray is safe for chickens? I hear their add on the radio and they say safe for kids and pets. I would have them come spray the yard.

I get the red ants in the yard! I get bit often if I'm not paying attention - dang they hurt and ITCH! Anyhow I've used DE on them - not my favorite but have no idea what else might work. I've heard cornmeal, used it - not sure what it did. I've used cinnamon, slows them down - if they just move out of the yard I'm okay with that.
@Michelle Guynn CUTE little chickies too! Thanks for sharing those pics.

I was told years ago that ants breathe through their feet, so the cinnamon helps to suffocate them when they cross the line of cinnamon and it sticks to their feet. I have never had the black ants trying to invade my house, but those little brown and red ones will from time to time. This is the warmer time of the year, and all of those undesirable creatures are on the move.

The thing with sprays is that it will get the ones that the spray lands on, but it doesn't get the ones down in the nest under ground.

How is everyone holding up in the heat today? We are currently sitting at 105 :sick The good news is, no one is broody today! I put the ice blocks out, gave them frozen tomatoes, filled the shallow dish with cold water, and turned the misters on. We bought a baby pool for the chickens at ace hardware last night and when I put it in the run, the girls acted like a grenade had gone off...they totally freaked. I don't know if it was the bright blue color, or the size, or what...but they just hated it. So I took it out today and gave it to the dogs, who love to soak in it.

Man it is hot out there! I just added electrolytes to a little ice water and gave our chickens some cold watermelon. I'm going to put the hose on a trickle in a new area shortly. I tried a mister but they hated it.
One thing I've noticed is that watering down the straw where the coop is seems to cool down that yard quite a bit late evening. The ambient temperature is much more bearable than when there was just dirt in there.
I hope everyone's animals are doing ok out there!

It feel ssoooo hot outside and it's 100 degrees here! I don't know how y'all in Phoenix do it with chickens. :barnie Mine have just gotten chilled melon and berries as treats today. They are all hanging out in the horse shade and the horses are staying in the hot sun to stay away from flies!
