I already have 2 incubators, but taking a break. I need to get rid of some of the cockerels that I already have before I hatch some more out. :gig

howdy all!!!

Back from the existential black hole of transforming from a child to an adult.

BOY its been a long minute since I was on here.

I guess for anyone who wondered where I went,

I graduated HS on time with a B+ average, got engaged , and then a week later he left for boot camp.

Got a job at Ace Hardware on Hougton where I was their crazy chicken lady and (not to toot my own horn) the best cashier ever.

My fiance/hubby got his orders and we were both excited and terrified at the prospect of our new location, OAHU HAWAII.

This meant I had to sell/rehome ALL of my birds....

my dearest most favorite animals.

My dog , Bailey, passed away the same day I re-homed the chickens, and I had to re-home my guinea pig two days later.

it was a rough week.

I went on my elk hunt, quit my job at the photography shop, went to watch my fiance/hubby graduate from boot camp, got in a HUGE argument with the future in-laws while we were in Texas. That was fun. Finally got what had been bottled up for more than 3 years off of my chest the that wicked hag.

Things calmed down after that, of course.

It was mostly wedding planing from then on.

We got married April 20th of this year, honeymooned for a week, I came back to arizona and he stayed in Hawaii.

I officially moved to Oahu May 19th

ITS SO BEAUTIFUL HERE.

so many chickens and so LUSH .

We live in Base housing, and although i miss my chickens dearly, we have our two newest family members Chip and Dale , as well as my office birds, Yeloe and Bloo to keep us company for the rest of their days.

Adorable pups!! :ya

@meetthebubus I hope your girl is feeling better. I wonder if maybe it has something to do with the rains we got last week? I remember last year after the first big rain we got in July a few of my girls got a bit wheezy. I got Vetrx and it seemed to help a little, but once monsoon season was over they really cleared up. I agree with @FeatherPugs - we raise birds in such a dry climate, I would get behind the theory that moisture brings about some sort of reaction to their system.

Thanks so much to everyone for your input when I got home fuzzy was calm and breathing normal I got her out for the vet rx and she started wheezing a little

I think it's moisture, heat and exertion, maybe she drank too much or something at least she's calm although scared to be away from her sisters and breathing normally as long as she's left alone and not outside

I'm thinking i will let her rest a day or two hopefully she can fight it off

@SonoranChick thanks, how did you administer it? I got syringes and put a little on her nostrils and she drank a drop

@meetthebubus I used grapefruit seed extract in the girls water for two weeks when they had similar symptoms as chicks. 45 to 60 drops per gallon of fresh water daily. I also supplemented with fresh dill, basil, thyme and garlic in a dish daily and they all made it.
GSE is a broad spectrum antibiotic/antifungal that works better than a lot if prescription drugs even for humans.
I don't run misters, just mud puddles, but my girls don't like the misters anyway.

Good luck, I hope your girl feels better soon!

Thanks @igorsMistress did they sneeze too? And how did you do the garlic just pieces of cloves? Ty

Yes'm they were wheezy and sneezy both. I just chopped some cloves and put in a dish. Gave them fresh each time, along with the herbs. Herbs were every day, garlic maybe every 2 or 3 days. I left it out most of the day then tossed what they didn't eat.

For the first three days they only got water with the gse in it, then I left one waterer plain after that but they still had one with the gse for another 11 days for two weeks of treatment. My whole flock was sick, it was very wet outside so I wanted to be sure they got over it.
My girls get a bit sneezy with the wind too. I wonder if they can get valley fever?

I put it in their waterer mixed with warm water. A little goes a long way. Once the water cools, the Vetrx is no longer mixed in and separates, sitting on top of the water. The chickens can still get it in their system that way, but warm water is better. At first I was under the impression that it was similar to vapor rub for humans, so I put some directly on the Delawares nostrils (nares). Then I read on BYC that it can be very drying, and I did notice that her skin and beak dried out and peeled just slightly. She was fine but I wouldn't put it directly on the chicken again, I would mix it and administer with a dropper, or just give to the whole flock in the waterer if need be :)
