Arizona Chickens

Thank you everyone, I appreciate your kind words and input. I'm trying not to worry and hoping for the best. If there is one thing I know to be true about chicken keeping, it's that you live and you learn. They are not like more common pets, like a dog or cat, where you can just zip them down to the vet when things go wrong. For the most part, WE are the doctor on call. We ask for advice, we learn from each other, we troubleshoot and we do our best. It's not always pretty, and it's not always perfect. Sometimes we have success, and sometimes we have missing band aids :th At the end of the day I know I spoil my girls and they have it pretty good, especially compared to poor factory chickens. I will keep you all posted. Let's all hope for some poopy band aids tomorrow morning!

The ants have been horrible this year, as long as the DE stays dry they stay away, but I find they've dug another tunnel to where the DE isn't and theyvare back, so I got ant stakes and I will probably surround them with chicken wire bc everyone will be curious

I was in the east valley today and stopped at one of those veggie markets i got mini watermelons for 50 cents and red grapes for 39 cents a pound! so if anyone happens to be near one on one of their trips its great to stop by but i cant go regularly bc gas would eat yhe szvings since i was passing by it worked out and I loaded up on grapes lol

@meetthebubus mine love watermelon! They especially like to drink the juice.

@Michelle Guynn sounds like you are having a nice time! I'm a big fan of Ariat boots, I've had mine for years and they've held up quite well. PRID is a homeopathic drawing salve, it's just a cream that works to get out splinters, thorns, glass or anything that could be stuck in the skin. It also softens the skin. It's for humans (sold at Walgreens) but it's all natural so we can use it on the chickens too. It's great for working on bumblefoot issues.

So much drama in my coop to report! :(
Hugz..... :hugs
Crossing my fingers the bandaid's just blew away...
Chickens will eat things that just make you shake your head..... my chickens decided the styrofoam my husband used to insulate his shed, was worth breaking in, and having a feast. :th
We will all be watching with you....:pop

@SonoranChick i just remembered a chicken eating horrible stuff story that might make you feel better

On the buff coop up top 4 ft high I used spray foam to seal something. It was 4 ft high and the buffs can barely jump up to their 2 ft roost so I figured its fine. Few months pass by and the eggers are integrated and now you know where I'm going I forgot about it, it's dry but still there and they can jump up on top and I came in one morning and 5 were interested up there when I go what ya eating and to my horror they were snacking on the dry foam breaking off pieces!

I covered the rest up so tgey coukdnt get to it and felt worried but no one got sick
