So much drama in my coop to report! The good news is the PRID worked, and this morning I was able to pull the scab off, and a big thorn came out with it  No wonder her foot was in pain! I was so relieved to get that out of her. I filled the hole with neosporin and re-wrapped the foot. I decided to also start treatment in another bumble using the PRID, so the RIR also got a foot wrap. I secured them with the band aids, just as I had previously done with great success to keep them from picking the wrap off. I went inside for one hour and came out to check on them...and the band aids are GONE. I frantically raked and searched everywhere, but they're totally gone. Which can only mean one thing: someone ate them. I feel awful :hit I did read on BYC that some people had chickens eat bandaids and they came out the other end in their poop, but I used the heavy duty fabric kind. I imagine they will be almost impossible to digest. I went from feeling so proud for getting that thorn out, to feeling horrible & stupid. As my husband said, I am still learning. But now it's just a waiting game to see what happens. Either I will find bandaids in poop or I will have to face the fact that I may have seriously messed up their digestive tract, or even caused their death. And I don't even know which chickens ate them, so I have to watch them all to see if they start to get ill. Plus I'm still dealing with Momo and her crop issue. It's not a good day in chicken world for me :(

I hope you won't have problems from that. Chickens will eat almost anything that they can get their beaks on. I don't let mine free-range here for more than one reason. Coyotes are one, but hubby has also been known to throw thing's down in the main yard and I am afraid that some of those thing's might be irresistible to the chickens!

Chickens will almost never eat what isn't good for them. Did they eat the bandaid - probably not - its somewhere or the wind blew it. Don't panic - don't be crazy throwing stuff on the ground but don't panic. Believe me with the wind around here they have had many chances to peck at stuff that isn't good for them. One was fiberglass insulation. Peck - that't not good - walk away. I'm sure they all checked it out but they did not continue to peck. I'm also sure there are horror storied too - I bet City Farm will remember who it was that had someone eat a nail or screw - its shiny - and that was horrid. Hang it there and trust in their instinct!

I can only hope that the band aids will somehow pass through. I have been reading lots of BYC threads and it's amazing what they will eat! Earrings, string, beads, styrofoam, one user even said their chicken ate a dime. And of course band aids too. All of these chickens survived, so I'm just hoping and praying mine do too :fl I will never ever use band aids in the coop again...lesson learned. I honestly thought it was ok because the other one stayed on so well, but they picked these right off.

Whew I sure hope you're right. I was thinking the same thing, how would a chicken even choke that big bandaid down, and why the heck would they want to? I even thought to myself when I went inside, "well if they are somehow able to pick it off, I'm sure they won't eat it." But then I came out and there were zero band aids...and no one is fessing up to the crime...
I do at least know it was not the barred rock, because she has peepers and can't see well enough to get it. She has a hard enough time with the food container and can't rip/tear with her beak because of her head gear. I also know it was not the BO, because she decided to go broody yesterday and was in the nest box the whole time.
This is like a bad game of Clue!

I'm glad the PRID is working I really liked it thank you @FeatherPugs for suggesting it much easier than the idea of just digging in to the foot.

@SonoranChick I'm sorry about the bandaids it is possible that they ate it i know thats not what you want to hear, its important to know that you are right chickens eat lots of things that they shouldn't usually they are ok, I'm constantly picking up things thats blow in

But they also usually have a good sense of what not to eat, I have those plastic ties that break off later with the heat and they won't eat those.

I've heard some say a piece of olive oil dipped bread is good to help in case something is stuck, maybe that will help just in case...

Don't feel bad or at least try not to stress isn't good for your baby ((()))
