So much drama in my coop to report! The good news is the PRID worked, and this morning I was able to pull the scab off, and a big thorn came out with itNo wonder her foot was in pain! I was so relieved to get that out of her. I filled the hole with neosporin and re-wrapped the foot. I decided to also start treatment in another bumble using the PRID, so the RIR also got a foot wrap. I secured them with the band aids, just as I had previously done with great success to keep them from picking the wrap off. I went inside for one hour and came out to check on them...and the band aids are GONE. I frantically raked and searched everywhere, but they're totally gone. Which can only mean one thing: someone ate them. I feel awful
I did read on BYC that some people had chickens eat bandaids and they came out the other end in their poop, but I used the heavy duty fabric kind. I imagine they will be almost impossible to digest. I went from feeling so proud for getting that thorn out, to feeling horrible & stupid. As my husband said, I am still learning. But now it's just a waiting game to see what happens. Either I will find bandaids in poop or I will have to face the fact that I may have seriously messed up their digestive tract, or even caused their death. And I don't even know which chickens ate them, so I have to watch them all to see if they start to get ill. Plus I'm still dealing with Momo and her crop issue. It's not a good day in chicken world for me

Whew I sure hope you're right. I was thinking the same thing, how would a chicken even choke that big bandaid down, and why the heck would they want to? I even thought to myself when I went inside, "well if they are somehow able to pick it off, I'm sure they won't eat it." But then I came out and there were zero band aids...and no one is fessing up to the crime...Chickens will almost never eat what isn't good for them. Did they eat the bandaid - probably not - its somewhere or the wind blew it. Don't panic - don't be crazy throwing stuff on the ground but don't panic. Believe me with the wind around here they have had many chances to peck at stuff that isn't good for them. One was fiberglass insulation. Peck - that't not good - walk away. I'm sure they all checked it out but they did not continue to peck. I'm also sure there are horror storied too - I bet City Farm will remember who it was that had someone eat a nail or screw - its shiny - and that was horrid. Hang it there and trust in their instinct!
