Arizona Chickens

Fry's has 10 pound bags of the frozen leg quarter's on sale this week for $4.90. Hubby picked me up 2 bag's of them. Fire up the grill this weekend!
In our area, the local grocery stores carry drumsticks at similar pricing. When they are priced like that, we buy a good quantity and freeze in portions. DW cooks chicken soup often. I renamed it to "LEG SOUP":gig

That's the way to do it. Buy what you like when it's on sale, and stock up! Waiting for the bags of frozen shrimp to go on sale now, because hubby has bought too much of the shrimp sauce.

I got a message via the emergency notification system that we were going to have flash flooding. This was when I was driving on Highway 92 just before Bisbee after dark. I got home just in time to put most of the ducks and all the chickens under cover. My Anconas were either out all night or they found out how to get out of their house because they were all quacking for breakfast in the morning on my back porch. It was a wet soggy mess with a swarm of the biting flies clinging to everything. Everyone survived, I'm always astonished given the wind and all the commotion. When is this all going to be over for the season? Or is that as unpredictable as the wind around here? I am praying for the day I will stop having to clean up after these storms.

Also, what is a good remedy for gnat and fly bites? I have then all over, legs, arms, neck, ears. Its embarrassing. I've been sticking around the house because I hate going out with all these welts and scabs. Its really gross. I cover up completely now when going out to feed no matter how hot it is. And I'm using bug repellent, with a small amount of success. Anywhere with tall grass is a problem.

If the tall grass is a problem for you, get rid of it. I have been seeing snakes.

I hired a guy to clean up the yard, but he couldn't finish when a storm started. He never came back by the way, a warning not to hire casual day laborers. They have no incentive to come back. He finished the front yard first, but the back yard is a mess!

I found a good vid on bumblefoot

This video is in Spanish but he shows quickly how he takes out a bumblefoot on a rooster i think the scissors is a bad idea but he has some special wrap to hold the gauze and you can see the process without much gore also he should of used gloves

One of my Ancona ducks had a big lump on one of her feet, so I found a video on YouTube about how to cure it without surgery. It involved soaking in Epsom salts twice a day for several minutes and using Neosporin. Then moving her to softer bedding in her run. It worked, and she is doing well. It took a couple of months though.
