Arizona Chickens

I ended up not taking the job at the elementary school that I had been hired for back in April. I would have ended up missing a lot of work for doctor appointments and of course maternity leave when the baby comes, and I didn't qualify for Family Medical Leave Act protections since I would not have been there long enough. Not to mention finding childcare for a newborn :hmm would have been rough. So my husband and I decided it was not the right time. I just realized I would have been back to work full time today, it was the first day of school! I am so thankful I got to spend my day in the coop instead! And ironically I got a call from a parent this afternoon, I used to tutor her son when he was in 2nd grade. He is now in high school, and needs some help, so I'll start tutoring again next week! I'm excited. It will be nice to make a little extra money before the baby comes, and still have plenty of time to spend with the chickens.

You have to do what's right for you right now. You do have yourself and that little unborn one to worry about right now. It's a good thing that you can still tutor, as that will give you a little something extra!

I’m lucky I can take a chicken to work with me. I haven’t lately because I’m doing 2 jobs but they did hire someone for the one job so soon be back to my one regular job. I can’t wait to get moved and have a coop with more chickens.

Told you that you should look for someplace over here near me! :gig

Well we got the bee squeezings knock out of us last night. I have a wet coop as the rain and wind was so, so hard it came through the cracks! That doesn't happen very often, I can only think of one other time. Ugly part is we had a 15 plus year old tree blow partially over. Not savable so we need to start cutting. We do have someone coming over to see if it can be straightened up. It really isn't out of the ground - just pulled up on its long, long roots. It blew on our porch overhang - no damage we can see- and caught up on our palo verde tree. We were lucky with that one. Otherwise we keep things battened down mostly so stuff doesn't move in the wind. My feral kittie's feed pan is somewhere in the desert - they had a new dish this morning and as usual will have to sneak up on it later. Humid like crazy this morning. I see a busy few days in my future not to mention the clean-up. What should only take a few house will take me 3 days!! Stay safe all.

Wow looks like one by one each of our areas are getting a strong storm the weather service online has been no help I've just been looking up at the skies and planning for the worst

Sorry @FeatherPugs for your tree

I think the storms around here are coming in at category one hurricane levels even though they'll only call them microbursts here stay safe!

I agree with you @meetthebubus - that wind was crazy strong. I was out in the chicken yard feeding so I really felt it and was crazy wet. I was also able to see where some shoring up of 'safe space' could be done.
UPDATE on the tree. Our neighbor brought his tractor over and pulled it up straight. It is now shored up with two by whatevers and arbor rope and stakes. Some of the roots are kinda bowed up but I'm gonna do some covering up of them to keep the moisture to the roots. We will see. Tomorrow I'm going to reduced some of the weight (branches) on the one side to help keep the balance. Got fingers, toes, paws, claws and chicken legs crossed that it works.

Good luck with your tree,
I was at work in Tempe, around 5-6 it was dark as night outside with dust, but no rain.
Actually it was darker then night, cause the parking lights didn't come on....
