@FeatherPugs ThanksTheir sand is constantly in either partial or full shade, so it may get warm, but never hot. I am considering switching over to some sort of deep bedding method in the fall though, simply because I will not have time to go clean poop daily with a newborn. I think with deep bedding I could get away with changing it all out every month or so. If I don't clean poop daily now, it looks like a dirty cat litter box by sunset. And as you said, straw and hay is warmer, so that might be nice for them in the colder months.
Which brings me to an odd question for you guys...how often do you scoop poop? What method do you use?
I use good ol' dirt! Rake and then shovel it out with wheelbarrow. The good thing is every once in awhile I bring in fresh dirt and not only do they love the fresh clean dirt for baths, but it brings in fresh natural grit
I personally think the deep litter method is not a healthy method imo
