Arizona Chickens

@Geranium I don't have a removable poop board so I scrape it inside. I have a big tape knife and I use a smaller bucket or a dust pan. Works great - take maybe five minutes for both coops. I then clean them off periodically. I also like to use a zeolite product if I can find it. Something like sweet PDZ - I usually have to order it online. We have a place in Casa Grande I haven't checked. The zeolite helps with the moisture and makes it easier to clean, the plus side is it soaks up urine and doesn't leave a smell behind. In hindsight, I believe I would have put outside access nest boxes under the poop boards. Easy to get to for the chickens, somewhat private and can be cleaned from outside. Sounds good but don't know if it would be good in reality, kinda know what I mean.
@SonoranChick that coop and run look great with the sand. No hot in the summer months - like now?
@BlueBaby - don't forget those little baby pics!
My DH really enjoys the chickens too. Seems to more so than before - he's always in the run with his scooter or chair holding someone and talking to them. He has realize how enjoyable they can be when you are frustrated, etc.
Stay safe - hot, hot, hot again today.

@FeatherPugs Thanks  Their sand is constantly in either partial or full shade, so it may get warm, but never hot. I am considering switching over to some sort of deep bedding method in the fall though, simply because I will not have time to go clean poop daily with a newborn. I think with deep bedding I could get away with changing it all out every month or so. If I don't clean poop daily now, it looks like a dirty cat litter box by sunset. And as you said, straw and hay is warmer, so that might be nice for them in the colder months.
Which brings me to an odd question for you guys...how often do you scoop poop? What method do you use?

Of those 2 eggs that were hatching before I went to sleep, the one from the tan egg died before it made it all of the way out. The one from the blue egg was out and all dried off, so moved it down into the brooder. I checked the other eggs, and no breaks in those eggs yet.

So what does it look like? The blue egg chick?
