Arizona Chickens

Funniest and annoying thing. Maybe broodiness isn't 100% hormonal instinct, but some desire as well!

When Rambita was laying on her clutch, every couple days Tigger would sit on the eggs while Rambita would take a nice dust bath well about 2 days after the chick hatch i noticed Tigger paying special attention, and then plop herself in the neighboring box and now is broody.

She doesn't like me to touch her at all she isn't friendly so shooing her out of the box is easy, I'm hoping to break her that way bc I'm not doing another hatch lol

Poor Tigger, she's all thinking, 'so that's why we had to care for your eggs and babysit...I mean egg sit for you... lol

I've got to get a good pic of Bolita soon I've just been too busy trying to recover

Oh and @FeatherPugs Thanks for the suggestion about trying to give Picasso to Rambita, but I figured not to risk it again I felt bad the poor baby got that peck before, she is the sweetest thing and actually seems to have bonded with me as her mama and wants to be with me all the time. If they had mini diapers I might have done that lol not really she loves scratching for natural grit

Do y'all Arizonans ever meet up or do things together? Or is it strictly chatting here at BYC?

I have met a few of the other people from AZ. when they have either bought some of my hatching eggs, chicks, or chickens. I think that it would be nice if we could all get together sometime, though.

Welcome to our AZ. state thread, by the way!

Welcome @Patchouli I too have driven over 200 miles for chickens and met a couple of people on this thread. I agree it would be difficult to find a central location as we're really spread out. However, you'll find that we're a supportive and friendly community here.

Do you have chickens? What kind?

I also think that if we did manage to set up where some of us who were able to or wanted to come, it would most probably have to be a centralized place that one of us had, and be arranged in cooler weather. Also I would suggest doing a pot luck when it was done, and everyone who will come to it will bring a dish. Maybe we could also have any chicks or chickens that we have available in cages where we could sell or trade with each other.

Edit: I might also be able to borrow a port-a-potty from a friend for it, so we can use it for potty breaks.

Is this dried up umbilicus? I was careful not to pull on it. I cleaned her vent and noticed it. Another chick still has a little dried skinny string of umbilicus that I've seen from day one. Looked like a dried up thread. Will those fall off eventually? They're five days old now.

Just leave it alone. As long as it doesn't look infected, it will take care of itself.
