Arizona Chickens

... I got my hands on a crate of pickeling cucumbers.... there was a recipe on here we used last year, but I did not print it... and now I can't find it.... It was sooooooo good
Does anyone remember it?
Thanks

There are different way's that people pickle cucumbers, Dill, Sweet, Refrigerator, Butter. You might want to use the search button above on the top of the page to try to find one here on the site.

If you still have them when we get moved I’ll take them.

You must really like how Hazel turned out, then! :D I've hatched out more egg's from their mother, but my naked neck roo is their daddy. I also have a couple of crested naked necks from out of my CCLB hens, but I already sold Miss Foofy, so I now only one of those CCLB's left here now.

Hi guys! Whew took me a while to catch up. No baby yet...We are officially full term today so she can come anytime now! In the meantime, this rain has been insane. Our washes ran and the property looks like a lake in some spots. But the nest box stayed dry and the run is dry enough, so I can't complain! Loving this cooler weather so very much.
@Geranium my girls slept in a big pile in the nest box their first two nights outside, then they started sleeping up on the roof. This made for one poopy roof. We built them a roost adjacent to the roof and they slowly figured it out and moved their sleeping spots over there. It took them a few weeks to figure it all out, and one or two still sleep on the roof occasionally, leaving their stinky evidence behind for me to clean in the morning...stubborn little buggers!
@meetthebubus wow Picasso is just gorgeous! I've always wanted a speckled Sussex. I think they are pure eye candy.
@nicollee thank you for your kind words about my old dog and for sharing your story. It brought a tear to my eye. We are getting his ashes back next week and will be planting a tree and burying him there, so I can visit him and watch the tree grow. I know we made the right call, but it truly was the hardest thing to do.

And finally,
@Diannastarr WELCOME BACK!! :frow You have been missed!

@Geranium Chickens have the best instincts. Just put the roost where they can get on it and they will begin themselves. I think mine were about 6 weeks'ish. In their grow out pen they had more than one roost so they could jump up during the day and get comfortable with the idea. Just portable put together things that moved around for cleaning and to keep them moving around. It will happen without too much help.
@SonoranChick - Oh I can't wait! :love
@meetthebubus - Prettier and prettier she is. And Chulita is going to be a pretty girl too.
I'm done with the rain. Can't clean well and the chickie yard has had enough wet!! I don't like using straw but have used it in the wet, wet, wet areas. AND my coop roof which is quite old and not metal is leaking! I need to go the the NORTH Phoenix valley about a new car, mine got totaled in an accident the 1st of Oct. The new car has to be able to hold my DH powerchair - anyhow its a pain in the butt trying to work with the rain, my DH OLD pickup and buying a new car. I need a teleporter!
Stay well friends.

A few days ago I was sure all of my chicks were pullets. Now I'm convinced at least half of them are cockerels. This is stressful! Yesterday I noticed that Agatha's comb and wattles were getting a little pink. Was she just flushed from the excitement of treats? Or is he a rooster? But if Agatha is a cockerel, then surely Ellie, my other Buff Orpington, is also a cockerel, because her legs are thicker than Agatha's but they're essentially identical. And I was already suspicious of Blue, my Blue Orp, and her wattles were looking a little bigger this morning, but no color. And two of the Australorps had pink looking combs this morning. All three have looked incredibly similar - I can't tell them apart aside from their leg bands. So i'm guessing they're all the same sex. My Austra White has always been huge and heavy compared to the othe chicks, with a big comb, but hopefully that's just because she's part Leghorn? And one of my Easter Eggers has always been much bigger than the other EE, but hopefully it's just because they have drastically different parents?? They're probably all boys except my runt Amelia. It's just going to be me and Amelia. Gahhhhh I hate this. I know they're going to be what they're going to be but this is suuuuper stressful. I don't want to have invested so much time and money and effort into a bunch of cockerels I can't keep. I definitely see the appeal of buying point of lay pullets...

I worked last night and I work again tonight but I will try to get good pics of all the chicks on Tuesday, so you can either talk me down or get me used to the idea that I've raised a flock of cockerels.
