Arizona Chickens

@meetthebubus I like your power hour thing :D mine definitely seem to fill up most right before sundown and right after they lay an egg. Especially the little white leghorn, Lady. She lays everyday, no matter what, and then scarfs down food like she's at an all-you-can-eat buffet. She goes between both feeders (they have the same food in both, but don't tell her that), and just eats and eats until nap time at about 10 or 11 am. I don't know where the food goes, she is so tiny and light. But that girl can EAT.

I'm having a beer with my girls out in their yard! I bought a sage bush that I planted outside of their yard, but right on the other side of the fence so they can nibble the leaves. They're quite pleased.

I sat out there on my bucket today since it's so nice out. I was watching the chicks that I had in the one grow out pen. I took 3 of them that I am already more interested in out and put them in my other pen. They all need to grow out more yet before I make a final decision on what one's that I will keep or sell. Most of the males will probably end up being culled. I don't need anymore yard roosters. :idunno I am looking for another nn boy that won't be closely related to my flock that I will be able to breed to my growing out pullets.

Going to bed with a full crop, is that a desire? or a necessity in chickens?
I usually try to lure them into the coop to roost at night with food, and they always seem famished....

Chickens can go to roost by themselves, they always do their last minute things whether it's drinking eating grit, etc. Then they will go to roost at dusk, no luring needed. they need,,imo, the power hour to go satisfied and better produce those eggs. My first batch of chickens I lured them to bed before dusk but later I found that they'll go themselves with a nice full crop and wake up empty and ready to eat again :)

I miss kicking back with a cold hefeweizen in the run with the girls! Mine always peck at the condensation on the bottle lol. Have one for me :D My dad sent me a special wine from Jerome, made by the lead singer of the band Tool. I'm so excited to try it when I'm no longer pregnant.
