Arizona Chickens

That's just what chickens do.... :love:lau
Lots of joy to your new family. :jumpy
Hold every moment with your daughter precious, they will never come again.

I used to say,
I loved my kids exactly the way they were and never wanted them to change,
but I was so excited to see who they would become,
that even given the chance, I would never hold them back!
That is a beautiful sentiment :) thank you.

Hi, I'm in Golden Valley, between Kingman and Bullhead, question for anyone, what is the earliest age that you've moved your chick's from the brooder to the coop? I have six new chicks all less than a week old. I am thinking about incubating a new group tomorrow, which when they hatch will have the first group about a month (4 weeks) old. Using 9 week rule, it will be about the end of January, my biggest challenge is going to be space. Has anyone put theirs outside before being fully feathered? The lowest temp I have seen here has been 20 degree's at night.:idunno

I'm a hatch-a-holic. I don't put my chick's outside until they are fully feathered (4 to 5 weeks old, but 6 weeks old is better for this time of year). Being as it is winter and the night time temps are colder now, they might still need a heat lamp at night or colder days, until they get used to the outdoor temps. If you are starting a new hatch tomorrow, you will only be a few day's behind my next hatch. I'm only doing a small hatch using only my biggest eggs.

I have a heat plate and prefer it over a lamp. I kicked quail outside early with it, no issues. I kept it on 24/7 so they could use as needed.
