Arizona Chickens

He is the one I babysit. Matilda’s brother. They can’t keep him and there is a lot of conflict with my Roos when he is here. If they still have him when we move I’ll take him back. Just can’t now.

Three of the five eggs I gave Emma made it. One hatched yesterday a black one. One this morning a paint I think or maybe white and third is zipped. Should be hatched in the next hour.

Cool! Matilda was the one that won at that Tucson Poultry Show that you went to, right?

Is there still hope for those other 2 eggs to hatch with Emma?

I had one that was hatching before I went to bed. It's out of the egg now and totally broke loose from it's attachment to the shell, so I removed the shell. It's another white nn. There's a second chick that is hatching now.

Got my second hatch going about 20 days ago, out of the 5 set, 3 of them are good, I wasn't sure this morning if it was a bird I was hearing or if it were a baby hatching, it was a baby hatching. Now to wait on the next two so that he has playmates, I think I am going to get my hatching fix without having a bunch to raise, lol, this hatch goes to a friend who's wanting to have her own hens, hoping that there are at least two hens and a roo with this batch, I'll have them eating and drinking before they go home, have a friend who's not sure what is going on with his incubations. They get to a certain point and stop.. So I told him to bring me his machine and a dozen or so eggs, I'd see what I could do.. I do kinda worry about using his machine.. it holds 48, I might get tempted to get another one for me.

Congrat's on your hatch! I had another one hatch out today, and it's still sleeping and drying off. This one has a fully feathered neck and look's a lighter grey in color.

:jumpy YAY.. congratulations on the hatch.. I'm beginning to wonder if I should have started this, I can become addicted..lol, at least for the moment, I am going to have to live through others, I can hatch but won't have time to raise another group at the moment, when we get back in May, I'll have time..

So my girls have finally been picking back up on laying eggs again. They started slowing down last August and production just kept dropping until they were down to 1-2 eggs a day from over 30 hens last month! They're back up to averaging about 6 a day and increasing now. I rehomed around 10-11 a couple weeks ago or I'd be getting even more.
The Wheaten Marans I got from Cackle Hatchery last May have finally started to lay, too! Just pretty little girls, they're some of the last few non-Naked Necks I have left. Pictured is two of the three Marans girls, and the two eggs they donated today next to a couple NN eggs. Nothing like Black Copper Marans eggs, more like Welsummer eggs. But that's fine with me.
