Arizona Chickens

Okay - now on to another subject. I have a tree dweller girl - unfortunately I have a few of them, long story, can't fix it - that seems to have gotten mesquite sap on her back. It looks as though she is done molting. What can I use that won't burn her? She's a skinny red SexLink, always laying even in the heat and molt. I will have to catch her because she does not want to be touched by people even though she will talk with me and eat out of my hand. At first I thought she had been bitten or some type of thing and it was dried blood but realized there wasn't a wound or anything. I wonder what else these 30 hens have up their sleeve to throw at me!
@BlueBaby have you asked @DesertChic about a clean necked NN roo? She does have some beauties.
I think if it were me I'd cut out the worst of it, and make sure she has good dust bathing places available, as the dirt will dry out the sap and it should eventually just crumble away.

I recommend Desitin....the diaper ointment. Not only does it work great at helping to heal wounds but the chickens don't like the taste of it so they don't typically peck at it. Lay it on thick!

Thank you for the compliment! I don't have a thoroughly clean NN rooster yet. It's one of the things I'm working on but that gene for a bowtie is strong in my flock. The only boy I had with a clean neck was purchased from me this past summer.

We had our first loss this evening. My EE Candice escaped over the fence into the neighbor's yard, and their dog got her. She died in my arms a few minutes later. I'm glad she didn't suffer long. Poor thing. I feel terrible, and my kids are devastated. So tomorrow i'm picking up some styptic powder and it's Operation Wing Clipping for the remaining 8 ladies.

Sorry for the loss of your hen. Chicken's don't always know where they shouldn't go, and it's up to us to protect them.

Many peeps just clip one wing. This causes unbalanced flying, resulting in no flying...
Sorry for your loss,,,,:hugs
