Arizona Chickens

Well AZ peeps - it's been quite some time since I've been here, but I was looking up feather-eating and thought I'd drop by. My flock has changed drastically since I was here last. I finally have my coop the way I wanted it... No one is the same color, no one is the same breed. Total diversity. I have 3 molters, though, and 3 that are not yet laying but should be

by the end of the year... unless I get really unlucky and they wait until Spring.

DH built me a new coop over the weekend so I will need to change my page. It's SUPER nice... I didn't know he had it in him!!

Have a great night everyone... I'm outside in this GLORIOUS weather with the laptop. I couldn't resist!

Brittney, Welcome back, but we need pics of the new coop!

I'm thinking of hiring someone to come remove the vert ramp and just make me 4 nice big pens. My wife would have a fit, but we have the room... wish I would have had Vanessa's husband come do it... she had an amazing set up.

I will get them once the nest boxes are in and the other window is cut out. Until tomorrow they have the old nest boxes just laying on the floor. Hubs has school tonight so it had to wait. You will get your pics, I promise! For now, maybe you will settle for one of my beautifully colored egg assortment? I'm proud of it

Dar, you DO have the room... do your kids use the ramp anymore?? Or if your wife would get mad, does SHE?!?

ChillMiller - I'm sorry to hear about your dog. I always worry about that here too. We've got some pretty brave coyotes out here.

Mahonri - Did you collect all of those today? I picked up 3 White Crested Blue Polish eggs today. All 3 blue hens are laying. I have the WCBlack rooster with them so I hope he's performing. I have not seen anything yet. Vanessa's coops were all pretty much down when I had been out there. I did get to see her watering system and I think I am going to borrow her idea. It would eliminate a lot of chicken chores. I'm using 1 gallon fountains. Those can be such a pain to deal with. The chickens are fantastic at being able to sit on the top of the fountain and manage to get poop right in the water. Chicks do it best!

TucsonTofu - Thanks. She's a very super sweet hen. I have the task of removing a lot of vaseline. She's such a mess.

Cluckin - Pictures please! I can't wait to see your new coop.
