Arizona Chickens

I think I know the answer, but I'm looking for confirmation...

Do I still need the heat lamp for my 8 week old chicks at night?
It's supposed to be 42 tonight and they are in an open coop.

(The enclosed area is only enclosed on 3 sides)

You can also use a large bunny cage or dog crate if it's only going to be temporary. The birds that Vanessa has are beautiful! I should know they used to be mine. Lol... They are from Meyer and I was blown away by their awesome lacing.

I have an 8 week old chick that I need help getting pinless peepers on. Anyone here used them on their chickens yet? Can the peepers be usd on 8 week old chicks?

I have an incorrigable Black Copper Marans chick that is super sweet to people, but thinks chicken feathers are the tastiest thing ever. She's been separated from the others for about 4 weeks now - occasionally I put her back in with them to see if she's changed her tune, but no dice. She basically spends the whole time running around picking feathers off her buddies backs and then eating the feathers - they are all afraid of her. But.... I really want this chick - she's not one that I want to cull.

My teen daughters and I tried to put one of these peepers on her - I soaked it in hot water till the peeper was pliable, but was too squeamish to stick the little things into her nose - I'm afraid the chick might be too small and I don't want to hurt her. If anyone here as done this before and is willing to help me, please let me know - I could drive over to your place with her and the peepers. It should just take a couple minutes, if.... someone knows what they're doing.

According to this website - they can be used on chicks as young as 4-5 weeks? Unless they are talking pheasant chicks?

These are the ones I bought:

NoSkiveez, I don't know if any Phoenix have hatched. I'll pull the empty shells and see if I can make out any writing. Yes, 3 ducks hatched while your chicks hatched.

3 of the remaining 13 are trying to get out still. I found one shell marked PHX2

Well, I'm going to START with two. Or 3. I wanted to mix 'em up. 3 good layers one or 2 easter egger or ameraucana or other blue egg layer, but those black laces wyandottes just knocked my socks off. Wow. I don't think I can keep more then but want enough room for 6.

Bob - that's the first Phoenix to hatch! I had some go half way thru and my incubator cooked them. I know everybody hopes for hens but the roosters are really neat. If its male you will start to see a longr tail feather in 2-3 weeks.

I just moved our chickies from the brooder to a large dog kennel with shavings in the bottom. They are still inside and that woman who responded saying she might take the roosters didn't reply back so I'm not so sure anymore if she's taking them..hopefully someone will take them soon-before they crow. I just don't know what to do about them. The two female chicks are turning out to be so sweet. I'm already in love with them

I just can't wait until we have that first egg!

NoSkiveez, what color Phoenix is it? I don't know which are which with all these chicks. I think I have (or at least had) Phoenix in my flock. I need someone who knows their chickens to come tell me what I've got, then I need bands so I can keep track of them!

I was looking at pics online and saw some Phoenix chicks, and I have seen some that look like that in hatches before, but I don't know if there are others that look similar.
