Arizona Chickens

I'm bringing whay I believe are two 7 week old cockerels. A buttercup that is terribly cute and rambunctious and a blue sumatran that I just know is going to be very handsome. I don't want either of these to end up in a pot and I can only keep one roo so I hope I can find then good homes.

I'll probably give the little roo away. But hes gonna be darn cute when he grows up! Hes a leghorn/cochin. All white with feathered feet. LOL

Hello AZ BYC,

can someone help with this question? Can I give fresh pineapple to my chicks?

My Roo Willy, is pulling feathers out of my new girls heads, he holds them down and they scream like they are being killed. Is this a normal action? The girls are 18 weeks old. My little Roo Mr. Peep is 17 weeks old, he is doing his rooster dance and has started pulling feathers also.

im sorry i have no idea about the pineapple....

as for the roos.... usually that will go on until the hens start to submit. Once that happens they may not be so aggresive and pulling feathers out.

I don't know about the pineapple but I would think if you give it only give it in very small amounts because of the acidity (sp?) I know you should not give large quantities of citrus because of the same reason. My motto is when in doubt, don't. There is a great treat chart here though. Maybe it will help you.

I post that everywhere! Good Luck to you!

Oh NO!!!
I cannot take more roos! My DH will cook them up. I can only keep one of my own even or the rest go in the stewpot. So sad!

I am afraid it is people just walking off and leaving animals to fend for themselves. So many people have lost their homes; about half the houses in my neighborhood are in repossession.

I feel for the animals, but I can't do much more than provide water.

Yeah I really feel like the stray animal problem in this part of Arizona is out of control. I think it is partly due to people just not able to care for them and there is no place to take them that is not already full. It is really sad. I guess I should not say too much about it though because I don't have a solution either. We have actually participated in the feral cat program though. The pound won't take them but they will spay or nueter (sp?) them and let you put them back. Our neighborhood is over run with people letting their cats breed and not caring for the kittens. I was feeding my cat outside just because some of the cats looked like they were on deaths door but then it became a problem for me personally. That's when we decided to use a live trap and have them fixed since the owner (that I will not mention the name of) will not do anything about this problem. As for the dogs, well it is sad but I learned my lesson years ago about having a "save the world" attitude if you know what I mean. You can't blame the dogs for wanting to eat if in fact that was the case and not just some dogs looking for some fun interactive toys to play with. I just thought it was odd that there would be two feed stores attacked within a week of each other.
