Arizona Chickens

My Polish chicken laid her first egg today! (Finally). It’s pink!
The white egg is from the store (for comparison)

I also had to chase a hawk away from my flock this afternoon. It came to perch on my Tombstone rose and the chickens didn’t see it till I chased it off.

I have an EE that lays a pink egg. They are simply pretty eggs - at least to me. I don't always know who lays which egg with 28 girls but I always know when she lays. She has been laying off and on through her molt.

I got my first egg today out of the cream colored NN girl today!

Hello, good to see you checking in with us! Have you gotten any snow up there yet, and if so how are your chicken's dealing with it?
Thank you. :]
Not yet, just the 2 days of rain the other day. which didn't bother them the slightest.
It's 28* out, so maybe by friday....

Welcome @nuthatched been a long time since I dealt with chickens and cold weather BUT the real upside is you can get so many different breeds. Me, down here in the thick of the heat, I have to be careful as I need to get them through 120 degrees sometimes and almost always 110 or so in summers. I have found NN do well for me. Right now though they want to be warm in their coops at night. Interesting isn't it.

Well, just in from cleaning the chicken yard. I had my first predator in 10 years. I have had an occasional owl but not gotten any chickens. I'm thinking this was early this morning. His poop was still very wet and looked more like a dog than a coyote. Also left two chickens in the yard with only "scratches" on them. Ate at one but left behind guts and such. I'm thinking dog. Now to figure if we have a stray dog in the area. One older, not often laying girl, one of my NN and @BlueBaby my blue australorpe Gracie Lee. I'm sad but will be mad if the neighbors just let their dogs out to run early in the am - they are not chicken proof. DANG!!
