Arizona Chickens

I've been hearing on the new's that some of the people that have been buying out the tiolet paper, hand sanitizer's, and those mask's were trying to resell them on Amazon and E-Bay and price gouging them. Greedy people trying to benefit by making extra bucks off the back's of other's. Do they really have to sell thing's at 4 to 5 time's the normal cost?
Ebay and Amazon have been yanking those posts and I've read where places like Costco are refusing to take returns after this is all over.. that tickles me pink, people running out to buy thousands of dollars worth of stuff are now stuck with it.

Hi @starri33 I was going to sell eggs but we're going to process the 5 meat bird hybrid girls next weekend. I have 8 chicks in the mini coop and that will leave me with 6 layers plus my roo and the chicks. That's enough to feed us and will cut back on the feed bill. I was able to buy more feed yesterday so I added to the stores on hand.
TSC has advised that they're increasing feed supplies in the stores and staying open.

my roo's have been becoming Sunday Dinner.. have 4 right now in the bachelor pad and I think 2 in the grow out. Broody is due to hatch on the 8th, and I am debating on collecting the blue eggs out of the NN coop and putting 6 of those in the incubator to hatch.. I like to kinda stagger them so that I don't end up with a batch needing to go into the brooder tote while I've still got a group that isn't ready for the grow out. Starting to get nice out there so it might not be a issue.

I have about 4 dozen egg's sitting in my fridge right now. The past 2 Sunday's I have been boiling up egg's to feed back to my chicken's mixed into some wet feed. I gave away 2 dozen egg's to the mechanic that came over and fixed the leak under the truck. I also give an egg to mix Buster's allergy med into at night so he can sleep better. Yesterday all 8 of my layer's gave me another egg. I still have some pullet's that haven't started laying yet.

I was thinking about putting out an egg's for sale sign up at the end of the driveway, until this crazy virus stuff hit. I decided that I didn't want a bunch of people stopping here because of that, and I can always feed them back to the chicken's or freeze some of them for baking for later.

I was finally able to get a picture of Darla this morning. Her feather pattern show's up so nicely in the sun.

She's beautiful! What kind? I'm just starting and trying to decide what kinds would be best. I'm in Sierra Vista!

Darla is a Barnevelder. I have mostly the Naked Neck's, but I want my Naked Neck's to also be different colors and pattern's in the feathering, plus I even have bred some of my Naked Neck's that will lay blue/green egg's. I also sell some of mine.

Hi I'm in Sierra Vista and wanting to start my own flock! Any recommendations on laying hens that would do well here? It doesn't get as hot as Phoenix or Tucson. Last summer we never hit 100° but I still want to make sure I get good breeds that do well in the heat! Thank you so much! Already learning so much from you all!
Welcome! I like Naked Necks because they handle our summer temps a little better than others. As long as you give them a way to wade in cool water and some damp soil then most will be fine. Coop ventilation is very important too. Good luck!

Good morning AZ. Crazy weather here last night, we had horizontal rain, thunder and lightning blow through last night just as darkness fell. I was outside to close the pop door and checked on the wee ones...a little rain was able to blow through the vents but they were warm and toasty under the heat plate. We've had a few issues getting supplies, mostly milk, so my daughter has been buying at a store in an affluent neighborhood on her way home. We're not running out, just staying ahead. I hope I can buy some flour and yeast this weekend and might pick up more feed/dog food if I can. How's everyone doing?
Doing great. Waiting for chicks to come to feed store here in Marana. May be getting some pullets from one if our Backyard Compadres here in a day or two. So glad you are all here.
