Arizona Chickens

If BB is talking about locking my girl in I can post a pic for you. I'm using a piece of scrap hwc and bungee cords
I believe that is what she's talking about, I've got/had 4 broodies in under 2 months, Jill one of the girls I got from BB, broke on her own, my two that I had in the main flock played musical nests so much that I only ended up with 1 hatch out of 10 eggs, Lucky who earned her name because I didn't toss her egg over the fence. Cruella broke herself, I had to put Midnight into Broody Prison, thankfully it only took 24 hours, I've kept seeing broody poo and not finding a hen sitting in a nest or a stash of eggs, till yesterday. I tried with no luck putting Midnight, Cruella and another called Red into broody quarantine only to have them freak out, I let them out and they ran for the nest boxes. So I gave up on that idea. I'm leaving this one in the nest box for as long as possible, unless she starts playing musical nestboxs or the others decide to crowd her and break some of the egg's, I thought she'd been doing good keeping the rest of them out of her nest until one of them would not take "no" for a answer, the broody is the black one and the little red is the invader..lol.

FWIW if I had a rooster, I'd maybe make a broody "jail" but I'd put a cooling system of some sort in it so they could stay broody for a full 21 days. Hens are $50 on craigslist and the only hatchery I can tell availability dates, are a month out for undesirable sexes, and two months out for the desirable sexes (i.e., female cornish X are two month wait).

Yes, I have been noticing the ridiculous prices that they are trying to sell them for on craigslist.

I've got 3 breeding Roo's in with this flock and a couple more growing, then have Charlie my NN Roo in with his group of girls, the broody prison I made her was to break her from being broody, she'd already gone well over her 21 days, I wouldn't give her more eggs, it was past time for her to get back to being a regular member of the flock, why the heck are the hatcheries being so far behind in their shipments? I know people are panic buying chicks because of this covid stuff. Don't know that they realize, it's going to be Sept at least before they get eggs. Things are slowly creeping back to normal.

hopefully people aren't stupid enough to pay that kinda price, I know that the incubators on Ebay have gone up by at least 50%.. I saw today where a little janeol 12 like I have and paid maybe 40 for, the person was asking 100.00. What are normally little 10-15.00 incubators are now going for 25 to 30.00. I've not noticed a jump in the price of feed, but that will probably be next.

Because some of the bigger one's are smashing egg's, and gassing the flocks, along with some of the pork farmer's too. Some farmer's are also plowing up field's and other crop's. There's been new's about that happening. They are even talking about it going to be a long term food shortage, if thing's do not get back to normal soon. Even beer is going to be wasted.

Yeah but also the number of deaths from the flu is lower because there is a vaccine for it... and there isn’t one widely available for COVID (mostly because it’s still in test phase)... to have something comparable in the Influenza family you would have to look way back at the Spanish Flu... which has COVID beat... 🤷‍♂️ Just saying it’s like comparing apples to bananas
