Arizona Chickens

They'll be banned from having dogs on their property... i love my house and garden.. and my spoiled chickens love it inside 😂 i yelled at the kid this morning (was grumpy from the barking) because i thought she was knocking on the wall in her room.. Nope!! It was Daisy knocking LOUDLY in the coop to come out to play! Im ordering another dog bed for the little spot by the sofa that they love so much.
When I lived in Palm Desert -- as hot as Phoenix -- I loved it inside, too! You have to be nocturnal to live in the desert.

I tolerate the heat well actually, although yesterday was pushing it. That's Iraq weather! But i have made the inside of my home super comfy. I did my watering early, since SOMEONE (dog) woke me up. But that's it for today. I am too tired to do anything.

Daisy has turned out to be such a cuddler.. and to think she was "just" the spare replacement chick. They are all in their little corner again, ready to nap.

Yay the camera works great! I got super clear dog barking. I have to delete out lots of other noise clips, but that's far easier than trying to get my phone start the video recorder and stand and record each time. And the heat must have worn him out, cuz he slept in this morning!

I posted this in the manage your flock thread. Hopefully I'm not breaking any rules putting it here too.

We started with our chickens in April. We bought two. One has become a gorgeous rooster we call Rufus and the other is his boss lady Josephine (aka Jojo). Rufus is loud and our city ordinance does not allow us to have him. My question is do you guys think it would be better for us to start over and keep these two together? How young can the chicks be to introduce them to Jojo to keep her company? Thanks for your help.

PS - If your are in the Phoenix area (East Valley) and would like to have an Australorp Roo (and maybe his better half too) let me know.

Hello, and welcome to our states thread! If you will be getting rid of the rooster and getting some company for the hen, I would suggest that you get some older pullet's and then keep them in like one of those fold up metal dog crates for at least a couple of week's near her. That way they can see each other but she cannot attack them. After a couple of week's, she should be used to seeing them around, and you should be able to release them in with her. She may peck at them a bit, as she will be establishing the pecking order with the younger one's to show them that she is the boss.

I used to have Australorp's, but I traded them in for the Naked Neck's as they do better in our high temp's here in the summer. My current rooster is more non-human aggressive also.

TY! It seems like it may be easier to let these two go live their lives as a couple else where and start with another set of chicks. (Note to self: Never just buy two) So what does the chicken math say an Australorp couple is worth for sale/trade?
