Arizona Chickens

If you don't know... word going around is feed prices and availability will be a problem soon (probably recent Derecho/Hurricane storms main reason). DH talking to co-workers that have chickens and TSC employee told him this. If you are reliant on commercial feed you may want to stock up now if possible and also look into ways to supplement/stretch your feed sources.

I'm sure you all know some of these (I got theme from a YT video)--
Soak (or ferment) feed
provide grit
feed any food/garden scraps to flock
grow extra lettuce, kale, etc for the flock
buy feed in bulk to save money (make sure you can use it in a reasonable time or split with neighbors, keep it secure from rodents and weather)
Feed good weeds to flock

I you need more ideas see Justin Rhodes YT videos on this subject. I'm sure there are threads here that can inform us also.

That's a good suggestion with what has been going on. With the fires burning up everything, and then with that hurricane flooding everything, anyone who had feed in those area's no longer does.

You said a while so I was thinking a WHILE. They won’t be gone before the weekend and if you want them you’re welcome to them. I just don’t want to hang on to them for months.
Oh no, I wouldn't look for poultry now if I didn't think I could get them in a timely manner.

That is sort of steep! I have 2 Double Blue Laced Barnevelder hen's here that are about a year old now that I am trying to sell for $10.00 each. No taker's yet, though.

If my coop was ready, I'd be really interested in those two hens. A few days ago a pair of coyotes were walking around a few feet from the future coop, so it needs to be predator proofed and have a run attached before I bring any hens home.

If they can make that kind of money from started pullets, I'll quit my job tomorrow and start raising chickens! I wonder if they've sold any?

Part of that high price is to cover the cost of shipping. Shipping grown chickens is altogether a different game.
They did sell out some of their chickens when I viewed the site.
I'm sure if you were in area so you would be able to pick up yourself, the price would surprise you.

I know some of you like to garden.. i have my annual starfish plant blooming.. there should be more blooms coming soon. I got this plant as a small cutting from a friend who was dying..

well on the day she passed away, in thinking of her, i went to go look at the plant, and it was dead!! I didn't have the heart at that moment to throw it away.. and thankfully i didn't, because I'm on pot number 5 of it!! It's turned out to be pretty hearty in the heat or cold.

That's an unusual looking plant. I had to look it up. It say's that they are a carrion plant and will eat insect's, so make sure that you feed them some flies or ant's.
