Arizona Chickens

Mahonri, I was thinking about that yesterday, with the angle of the sun so low, AND with the overcast yesterday, not enough light to get them working.

I got 21 one day and 15 the next. I got 4 today. I was hoping it would stsy high nut it slacked off agsin and with the over cast, i bet it will be slow again. Some breeds are on vacation again. *free loaders* And one was burried. I also had a whole pen get loose. Thankfully I found them and not the dog. They are crested so they were easy to catch.

We got 1 egg yesterday, the first one in 2 weeks.

I've been giving them 3 tablespoons of Chili Powder + a teaspoon of cayenne pepper mixed into their morning oatmeal for a week.

Don't think it matters one bit.

I think the AZ chickens are all on strike. They are probably holding out for electric blankets.

NoSkiveez - I'm glad you caught all of the escapees.

No Skiveez--
That was a close call! I have one dog that would LOVE to get into the chickens. I am really interested in the breeds you have. I really, really want an Appenzellar Spitzhauben (sp). I imagine that if I saw the other breeds you have, I would be wanting them, too.

Last night I made breakfast for dinner (before I left my family to go scrapbooking with friends til 3am!). I had saved up 10 eggs from my little silkie girl. Everyone loves her tiny little fried eggs. Usually 10 isn't enough for our family, but my oldest was at a friend's house. I still had to add one from our other hen. But there is just something really fun about cooking up those tiny little eggs. It would be so fun to try ducks next!

I am still getting some eggs--not a ton, but enough to put some aside for Mahonri's yearly hatching party.

Tucson Tofu- I would LOVE to buy that hen and probably the spangled roo. I sent you a PM.

Want some more eggs? It looks like you have the magic touch!

Chrystal- I will have to call you.

Hello to all the new-new people! I used to be AZ's number 1 greeter, but... um... the forum is soooo addictive, so I made myself go cold turkey. So HI! I am Laree, and new-old to the forum!

...I should probably send Nifty an email. No doubt the LORE database is in need of some cleaning. ...now that I am jobless and have lots of time, I can really tear it up!!!

2 Eggs Today.

I just got 3 hens and a rooster on Saturday. They had a long 2 hour drive squashed in little boxes and then were thrown into unfamiliar surroundings. I was not expecting anything for a couple of weeks. But, This makes 4 eggs in 48 hours......I AM TOTALLY JAZZED!! My other chickens are only 11 weeks old, so I still have a long wait for eggs from them. I am saving pennies for an incubator. Next year I really want to join you all in your Hatch-offs.

Thank you for the Welcome Laree. Nice to meet you.

...Really though, latex paint has no toxic fumes. It may stink, but nothing bad will happen to the chooks.
