Arizona Chickens

I would love to get a polish, silkie and a houdan hen from you! I have wanted to get one of each of these breeds for a long time. I really wanted a silkie when I got my SLC, BA, and EE from a lady in marana about 5 months ago. YOu are just a little far for me right now. Maybe if you need to down size in the spring.

Good morning everyone! I didn't realize how many new Arizona people are on here now. I went back about ten pages and was blown away. Hello to all you newbies.

I have to comment on the duck egg thing that Mahonri wrote that they are great for baking with. Duck eggs are great for anything! I love them, they are way better then chicken eggs.

All of my birds are on vaction right now. My SLW was the last layer, she even layed all threw her molt. but she stopped last week too. My blue andulusian is just about 5 1/2 months old now so I am keeping my fingers crossed that she starts to lay.

Here is a pic of Lindsey, she has taken forever to grow back her feathers and has looked just pitiful.

Here is our two roos that we gave to a new home. EE and a SLC. THey got huge fast, you can see out little EE Slow to the right of them. (look at the feathers on the back of the SLC head they stick up in a little point LOL)

I thought it was chili powder and not cayenne? Does it make any difference?

You sure will have lots of babies soon! How exciting! I would love a bunch of silkie chicks. They are so sweet! You will have to post lots of pics when they hatch.

No Skiveez!!! You are selling 45 chickens? YOWSWERS! How many do you have? I sure wish we lived closer to you. I would love to come and get some of those. How much do you sell them for?

And what is the difference between Americanas, Aruacanas, and Easter Eggers? I think I have two Americanas, since that is what they were called at the feed store, but could that be wrong or are they all pretty much the same?

Newchickmom--

Your chickens are so pretty! I love the cool hair...ahem... feathers on that guy! Very funny. Your puppy is adorable. I have a dog that is not nearly as cute but sure would love to eat my chickens. She's 8, too. At least you can blame it on his cute puppy phase. I have another dog that I wouldn't dare allow around the chickens, either. He is precious, but he's a retired drug dog. He used to work all day for a few minutes with a toy. When he gets a hold of something, I am completely powerless to get it out of his mouth. I wouldn't want to try that with one of my chickens. We have one dog that is nice with them, but she wasn't always that way. I think she even killed one when we first got them a couple of years ago. But, she has cancer in one leg and just doesn't feel like chasing them anymore.

We visited Montezuma's castle once. It was very nice! We are hoping to see Flagstaff next month. My 3 youngest kids have never seen snow.

BTW, your profile pic is GREAT!!

All of our chickens look ragged since they aren't done growing back all of there feathers, they are a pretty bunch when they are all feathered out. I just loved that roos feathers, it always made me giggle when I looked at him. When we first got Cody he was scared of the ducks since they were bigger then him but now one of our female ducks chases him and he thinks it is a game now. I am constantly on him so hopefully the thrill will end. We had a lab/australian cattle dog(heeler)/pit and he was the BEST dog ever with the chickens and ducks. We gave him to a lady who needed a good herder for her horses and a guard for her chickens and cats. He loves it but we really miss him. We also have a 13 year old chocolate lab that is great with the birds. We always used to joke that our house was like Noahs ark, since all of the animals got along. Our cats are great with chicks and ducklings even.

Your kids are going to LOVE the snow. I love to watch there faces when they first get in it and try to eat it.

My picture is all of my girl's eggs. I collected some and decided to make a pic out of them, just for BYC actualy LOL.

NoSkiveez- Up date on the eggs you gave me. I had two SLW eggs hatch last night and 2 more are fighting their way out now. And pips on 2 more. So 2 in the brooder, 2 breaking out, and two just starting of the 7. I was up till 3:30am with my head pressd up to the glass watching. This is nuts. Going to be a long day at work. LOL

Bob's Henhouse :

Anybody have an idea where Marek's vaccines can be purchased locally? I think my new hatches are coming down with it, and need to vaccinate everyone pronto. Thanks in advance.

I called Triple D feeds on I-10 and Jackrabbit this morning to see if they carry it. No luck. Please let up all know what you find out. You might try First State Vet Supply online. http://www.firststatevetsupply.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=84
