Update on the Marek's. I had ordered it, then canceled for the moment. NoSkiveez suggest I inspect more closely for mites, turns out I have mites. I'm working on that problem right now, and already, overnight, it seems to be improving.

What I was thinking was, would anyone like me to order any of the vaccines for them, Newcastle, Marke's, CRD etc, to save on shipping, meet up one day to pick it all up, OR, since even though the botte of MArek's must be used within 2 hours even though it hold 1000 doses, in order to save the $15 a bottle, plus FOB, plus shipping, would everyone like to get together right after new years and have a vaccinating party. Well , the babies may not think it's a party, but you get the idea.

I will be ordering anyway, so either way is fine with me. Since it's Mahonri's project, I don't want to step on any toes, so, discuss it among yourselves and see if a consensus can be reached.
Thanks

NoSkiveez, thank you again for all the info. I did lose 2 of the 5 in quarantine, plus 2 decided to hide outside instead of going to bed last night and I dind't find them till this morning.

But the other 3 seem to be improving already

Sommer and I regularly hold vaccinating parties (it is easier with 4 hands)

You do not have to use all of the Marek's vaccine. You can crack the bottle open, cut the tablet into portions, and seal them seperately in sterilized glass paint jars. It is the solution which will go bad--- So the marek's tablets will keep ~1 year until you mix them with the vaccination solution. Then your 2 hours kick in.

-When i buy the vaccine, I seperate the tablet into smaller portions.
-When we have a vaccination party, I take one portion ou of the fridge and place it in a sterilized glass.
-Then I use a new large needle to pierce the vaccination solution bottle I suck up a bunch of solution.
-The unused solution goes back in the fridge. As long as it remains clear, it is good to use another day.
-I squirt the liquid in the syringe into the glass with the vaccine tablet.
-Mix well, and let sit until room temp.
-Get a new needle, and vaccinate the chicks.
-Marek's vaccine needs to get under the skin, but not muscle. For a young chick, a single drop under the neck skin is sufficent.
-Keep all newly vaccinated chicks under quarantine for 2 weeks. During this time they are still susceptible to the live virus.

Did that make sense? You can really reduce your costs by splitting the vaccine tablet. Especially if you have crappy hatches---like me.

Thanks again Laree. I didn't know about cracking the bottle open. Thought the virus part would go bad if exposed to air. That way is a lot more economical.

There are some really good instruction manuals out there. I will see if I can dig one up.

So, it looks like I'm going to have TOO MANY EGGS... anyone from AZ want to hatch some of my eggs and all I ask is for half the babies but you get to keep the other half for hatching them?

Does that sound fair?
