Arizona Chickens

Not sure of the rules/guidelines in AZ, but here in Land of Lincoln, at the larger feed store (like the one I go to),,, there is a 6 chick minimum purchase. This does put the One Easter Chick for grandson/granddaughter , at a disadvantage. Some of the smaller feed stores did not post such minimum purchase requirements. They also did not have very large numbers of chicks in stock.
I have seen those signs too.. and the one that didn't have a sign asked me about the 1 i was buying and if i had other chicks (went back for another after the initial brood). But kids are heading back to school, so maybe the demand will calm down now.

Last I heard Olsen's would sell a minimum of 2 just because they're flock animals and TSC had the 4-6 minimum. You'd think they'd need maximums now, just to keep the first few customers from buying them out though.

Yes, at pratte last year, they had a 3 minimum and 8 max. Haven't seen what they have now because i must avoid all chicks at any cost.

I think i need a small digital keyboard for the chickens. The xylophone is just not cutting it. I am finally feeling good mentally and physically, after so long (seriously think it was long covid symptoms, just debilitating), so im excited to get my chicken playground designed. Maybe bicycle.. or slide.. maybe a seesaw, definitely a swing and some climbing apparatus. And ill keep it separate from the coop so i can move it around the house, give them a change of scenery.

I always must look at the chicks in the store! But, in our Prescott TSC they had big galvanized water troughs & hanging heat lamps last, and the chicks looked pretty OK, except for some tiny ducks that were not walking right. This year in the new stacked brooders, they were all huddled under the too high heat plates. But, I started with chickens in the 80's and there were no chickens at the feed store at all then! At least not the local So Cal one I went to. I bought chicken feed, no chicks were ever stocked, it was more of a mill for the big farmers. They laughed at me and my little car getting 2 bags of layer pellets! We had to order them by mail from the hatchery.

My local feed store is supposed to have some in now. They order their's from Pruitt's out of New Mexico. I don't need any chick's from them though because they won't order any Naked Neck's. I already asked them, because I still need those yellow legged buff colored ones. They do have the best fine ground starter chick feed that I like though.
