Arizona Chickens

I say let them invade...LOL. The top blooms will give me more seeds to feed I hope. Also I'ves seen some say it's a good cover crop plant if I plant outside it will smother some weeds and be a good chop and drop mulch.

Up until a few year's ago when the new neighbor's moved in across the street, there used to be some of the cow's clover that grew by my mailbox. I used to pick it to feed to the Australorp's that I had back then. It doesn't grow over there now anymore, since they dumped a bunch of rock's out there.

Some people just have to have everything totally sterile.
I also get the horse alfalfa pellets to give the chickens some green when there is nothing growing. Here that's in the winter, so I mix it with hot water to give them liquids. In the desert, i would guess that wet cold pellets would be good!

Smoke like fog today in Chino Valley. First day I've actually smelled smoke from all the recent fires. I learned a new weather term this past week - Pyrocumulus clouds = clouds associated with fire or volcanic erruption.

My DH made a small door into the covered run in barn big enough to let hens in but exclude Roger. He got to 4 of 5 Minorcas so I sequestered them in a chicken tractor while they recoup - I guess it's the "Recoup Coop". I have a theory he wanted to make them all into Naked Necks like himself.

The small exclusion door could be a solution for others with similar issues- it lets the hens have a place to hide/stop the chase and they get to go in or outside as they choose. I let Roger and all back in at night when they just want to go roost.

Did you put the NN hen's with him yet? Maybe he would leave those other girl's alone more then?

I have same thought but no time until after a Monday work deadline. I'm even working today (Sunday) which I've not done in probably 5 years.

Monday nite I hope to get them in there!

Maybe do reverse, and put Roger Dodger into tractor to behave??? :idunno
I've wanted to do that but I had to catch the Minorcas to do first aid already. I might try to put Roger in tractor after I rearrange my flocks like a tetris game and after I'm done with hard work deadline on Monday so I have time.

@cavemanrich and @BlueBaby both excellent suggestions - Thank you!

Roger might be trying to breed the Minorca's, and they might not be interested in his affection's, or even too small for him?

Yes they are the least compliant to his affections. You're very right they are leaner birds and the Minorca are friendly and curious but flighty and somewhat independent (perhaps prefer to be lifelong bachelorettes?). It's all very interesting to me - the flock dynamics - and the problem-solving that goes along with it.
