Arizona Chickens

I just started using a Masterson Sta-Wet handy Palette sponge (designed for keeping acrylic paints wet in a palette) in the water reservoir of the incubator. So far it is working great, maybe any sponge will do but I had this on my art supply shelf. I cut it to fit the reservoir- it is less that 1/4" thick once wet down.
I missed some posts, what incubator do you use? I put a wet paper towel in the one I have to raise the humidity when the ducklings were hatching. That raised it right up. The Nurture Right 360 makes it too difficult to get to the reservoir to add a sponge.

I have a Rite Farms Pro master Series 24 egg (really holds about 18 larger eggs)

Very simple plastic rectangular with rollers and styrofoam liner outside the plastic shell. Also I plan to use the other half of flat sponge in my homemade incubator once I get the egg turner installed or it might just end up being the hatcher for lockdown if I wanted to do staggered hatches.

I have a neighbor with some fertile RIR hatching eggs if anyone is looking for that breed. I haven't seen his birds so don't know if they are production or heritage type. I think he is giving the hatching eggs away. Let me know if you'd like some if you are in the Prescott area OR if you are in Mesa/Tempe/Scottsdale area I can pick some up and bring on weekend to meetup. (Or on 1-17 between the two)

I have some 10 week old RIR right now, boys are probably going to freezer camp in 2 more weeks.

Are they big enough to make it worthwhile? I've seen them described as dual purpose but the hen I had years ago was smaller than my Black Stars who were just regular sex-link egg layers. I suppose the cockerels would be larger.

My brown Leghorns had eye liner markings when they were day olds, too.
Do you own Stock in Maybeline??? :old :gig

They are not the largest. The largest is the Marans cockerel. But they are taking up space and no one on Craig's list wants them.

On a visit to my great aunt when I was in grade school she answered the door and was finishing up her makeup - she had run out of brown eyebrow pencil and picked up another one that was black to finish next eyebrow. Shortly after that we got our next cat - a calico with 1 brown 1 black eyebrow - we named her Maybelline after that incident.
