Arizona Chickens

I know I'm in a different area than you, but wanted to share what I do for outdoor ants in my yards/driveway. I also don't have fire ants👿, my ants are more domesticated species:gig

I sprickle liberally BORAX onto the ant hills, It controls them,,,,,, at least my type of ants quite well. Of course the borax works only if it is dry, and ants get it on their leggs as they walk across it. They clean themselves by eating all the dirt/dust etc, off their bodies.
Borax is non toxic. It causes gastro-intestinal air to develop. Ants cant fart:old, so they pop. :idunno

Do you mean Borax Detergent?

Hatcheries vaccinate their chicks. Is this something I should be doing? It would be hard to stick a needle into such a cute tiny body.
Lots of people do not vaccinate unless they have had a problem with certain diseases, like Marecks, this is from the Sandhill Preservation FAQs:
We do not vaccinate day-old poultry. We do not have Marecks problem here and do not wish to bring the vaccine on the farm. Our goal is to produce birds that can withstand common environmental stresses.

Thanks! :)

Look at the eye markings on the darkest chick. They're the same on both sides. What does it remind you of? A hawk, maybe? Too much mascara?

And I cleaned up after taking the picture. :) For some reason, chick feed is only yummy from the lid. Once it's on the floor, they ignore it. Chickens gotta learn to scratch!

But those eye markings have my attention.

It looks quite different from the Murray McMurray for silver gray dorking (https://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/im...Silver-Gray-Dorking-DayOldBabyChicks.jpg)--is this one a pure cuckoo leghorn?

You'll just have to wait and see how their feather's will come in.

The coloring on silver grey Dorkings as chicks and as adults is completely different. Maybe these will change a lot, too???

The chicks' father is Big Ben, and their mother(s) are one or more of my cuckoo Leghorns. The eggs they came from were all laid on different days, so they could have the same mother, two different mothers, or three different mothers. No telling. Lacey does have patches of white on her wings.

Yes ,, that is what I use.
Borax, and Boric acid are 2 different versions of same compound. Borax is the natural one, and Boric acid is somewhat more refined.
The Roach Proof pwders available everywhere contain Boric acid. They are inexpensive and do work.
I choose the Laundry version, of Borax, since it does the job. :thumbsup Is less $$$ than the Roach proof mixes.,,,, and works untill it gets wet and dissolves.
I skip mixing it with powdered sugar, as an attractant. If I was placing baits inside home,,,, then I would.

Here is a copy and paste from a site with explanation of Borax.

When mixed in baits it can control ants, cockroaches and some other insects. The insects also ingest the material while grooming and subsequently die. Boric acid will remain effective indefinitely in a dry environment. ... 20 Mule Team Borax is very effective in controlling a wide variety of insects.Oct 26, 2011

My brown Leghorns had eye liner markings when they were day olds, too. Here they are when they were little and cute! Lots of the "Brown" birds have the wild type chipmunk stripes and eye-liner eyes.
