Arizona Chickens

You had me do a google search to find out what they eat. This site even tells how long the average lifespan is too.

They are interesting little critters, every new bug I come across I look up what they are, life cycles, if they're dangerous etc. They aren't scary when you learn about them, I don't recommend handling anything but for the most part if you leave it alone they don't bother you with most things. Scorpions and rattlesnakes are the only things I'll call my husband to get rid of but everything else I just let it pass through.

Is anyone else in AZ having fly swarms since all this rain started? I know from trips out, all of Tucson is having swarms so it's not just me. What do you do about them? I've tried putting out various types of traps but the just keep coming. I sprayed the coop with permethrin but I don't hardly ever see any in there, they're all outside swarming on the grass

The flies always arrive in droves after a good rain or when you run the mister's for your flock. You can try hanging some of those bagged fly trap's up away from the coop and run. Maybe that will help to direct some of those flies away from where your flock is at. There are also fly predator's that will feed on the flies and their eggs.

Hi all, does anyone have 1-2-3 extra Calm hens I can buy off you? They don't have to be laying anymore. I have one chicken left after unchecked predation while I was evacuated a few months ago. ( I wasn't able to take them, I didn't know about the fire until we were told to get out) I'd like to wait until next April when I get chicks but I don't want her by herself all winter. (not that she should be by herself at all)
I trust fellow bycers with the health of their birds much more than I'm seeing that's available here. I won't be available until October unfortunately.
Thanks

Sorry that you lost some, and I hope that someone that lives close enough to you has a few extra's that they can part with to help you.
