Arizona Chickens

My chickens are feasting on what I now know to be plains lubber grasshopper. The master gardener replied and gave me this link:
https://bugguide.net/node/view/8728

I killed a bunch in the front, where my chickens can't go, but there have been a few in the back also. the Sage got nibbled a bit and so far the lettuce is untouched.

With all the grasshoppers I'm not sure how much incentive my girls have, to continue learning to use the new grandpa's feeder. They're still stuck at stage zero, with a rock on the treadle and the flip-lid propped open to the widest stage.
It took my old flock awhile to learn how to use a homemade step-on feeder (probably like what you describe). I haven't used them with my new flocks yet.

OK, my brain must be on vacation. I can't find a tab for starting a new thread.
I am looking for s e r a m a s in AZ. I live in Phoenix. I can only have one rooster.
If you have some of these lovelies for sale, please email: [email protected]

My spellcheck will not allow me to type serums. See? Does it every time.
Easy--peezy on starting a new thread. and here is a free lesson courtesy of the caveman.

Hi all, does anyone have 1-2-3 extra Calm hens I can buy off you? They don't have to be laying anymore. I have one chicken left after unchecked predation while I was evacuated a few months ago. ( I wasn't able to take them, I didn't know about the fire until we were told to get out) I'd like to wait until next April when I get chicks but I don't want her by herself all winter. (not that she should be by herself at all)
I trust fellow bycers with the health of their birds much more than I'm seeing that's available here. I won't be available until October unfortunately.
Thanks
Oh, that's awful. I wrote to Inger (in Williams, I know that's a little far) and asked her if she has or knows someone who has some old gals. I have a neighbor with a couple of old hens, but they're not healthy and they'd not be good for your girl. Hugs.

Edited to add: I see you got some company for your girl...so glad!

The lady I wrote to (she's on MeWe's Arizona Chickens Group, and on Facebook) said a lady in Camp Verde is "looking for a home for her flock". I don't know what kind of chickens, how many, their ages, or why she has to clear them out, but if anybody is interested, I can contact Inger and ask particulars.

This afternoon I stopped by Radio Shack (I've been told this one is the last one standing in the United States) and bought a radio because the ones I use (from the 70's, 80's, the and newest one from the 90's) are just too staticky. Part of this is due to living rural, but it's such an improvement! Love my talk radio, but I haven't been able to listen since I left Flagstaff. Listening again! Here's a picture of it, just to give you a blast from the past.

Amazing that there was one of those still open. I don't see any vehicles there. What's it's location? Are you listening to KFYI?

It's in Show Low, on White Mountain Blvd. There were a few other customers in there. I actually took the picture a few months back after seeing and visiting this lone holdout store.

I'm listening to KVWM, and will probably be listening for the rest of the evening. Missed my talk radio! :celebrate
