Arizona Chickens

I have decided to sell 4 of my pullet's for $10.00 each. They should start laying egg's in 2 or 3 more week's. Two of them are Lakeshore Egger's that hatched from green egg's, one of them is an Aloha, and then there is one that is a red colored Naked Neck mix. All 4 of these girl's grew up together, from the brooder on up. I'm selling them to make room for more of the Bielefelder's.

Okay, I may be showing my ignorance...but why will chicken feed prices go up or the feed get bought up? I don't have chicks and won't have til next spring, but hey!
Because it happened in some places before when they locked everyone down for the covid. People went crazy buying chick's for comfort pet's and to have something to do. All of those needed feed, plus there were less truck's on the road to deliver supplies. Some of the shelves in stores were empty, don't you remember?

A week or so ago our local feed store only had 1 bag of the dog food I usually get. I usually get them 2 at a time. I try to get everything here local and only go to the big stores if necessary. I need to go again. I agree, feed prices will go up so think ahead and think of alternatives.

I've been buying more whole grains that could be sproutable and started building some compost rings/towers that might grow something inside the run areas, may have to divide off/protect some of the run to let it grow without chickens scratching it all up. I get a lot of alternative/supplemental feed ideas from YT channels like EdibleAcres, Justin Rhodes, Perma Pastures Farm.

I have noticed the prices are going up on some stuff, plus some of the packaging volume/weight is shrinking a bit in other packaging so that the price is the same but you are getting a little bit less for your money.

What does that have to do with now, a year & a half later? Are there new lock-downs?

Not saying folks won't go crazy--sometimes a whisper of rumor is all it takes--but isn't some of this like a self-fulfilling prophecy? I do hope they continue to carry my dog's food at the feed store, because she can't tolerate a lot of kinds (long trial & error to discover this). They carry it at TSC, but I too like to buy local when I can.

I know you want to clean and sanitize them. :thumbsup
Post a pix of one,,,,, and maybe I can advise you on easy way to open:idunno. Some of these things may have a hidden snap to prevent accidental spillage.
I figured out how to get the top off. But it does have this bar on the outside that connects to a rubber stopper on the inside. When you push on the bar, the stopper moves inside so whatever is inside can come out into the pan. Am I going to need to keep pushing on it every time I want water to come out for the chickens?

Last week I went to Sam's Club in Flagstaff. They were rationing paper products to one of each type of item per customer. Maybe they know something we don't.

That is refereed to as shrinkage method. Have seen it over the years. If you notice in stores,,,,, most sugar bags are 4 pounds. They were 5 pounds for most of my life.
I have seen it with dry cat food bags. Then they come out with a larger bag,,, and call it a BONUS BAG... of course the price is also BONUS SIZED at that point.
That is a marketing strategy used often. I have no problem understanding price increases. Inflation is a real thing.. So are increased wages. Nothing is standing still.. :old :idunno

Is your waterer a 2 vessel container???? The rubber, and other steel strip may aid in freeze prevention/protection.. Similarly how thermos bottles operate,,, but not that extreme. Thermos, utilizes vacuum space. Energy does not conduct thru vacuum much. Dead air is next option for insulation properties.
