Arizona Chickens

On my local feed store run today - I was able to get everything but not dog food. I saw on thier computer the price went up by over $10 on a 24# bag. I ordered it instead from TSC where the price stayed at about $58 but I have to wait til Friday to pick up.

I think the dogs need to get weaned off this expensive food.

I have a very old story on that, told to me by my dogs' internal medicine specialist....a patient was switched slowly to hundenflocken and had diarrhea (lots) that couldn't resolve. after a bunch of tests including an abdominal ultrasound, they found a problem that would have killed the dog, they found it only because of the diarrhea/ultrasound. So, sometimes switching can get even more expensive than the food. That said, I hope there's something that works out for you, that's reasonably priced and readily available.

Wait for it, wait for it! My newest future flock member's that hatched yesterday:

For those of you whose hens only have access to desert dirt (no plants, like the yard below), do you add anything organic to their run? Wood chips, mulch, pine pellets, etc.?

I use pine shavings, but have used bestcob corncob horse bedding and straw. The hens really enjoy the straw.--ETA---and pine pellets. I think the pine pellets took longer to compost though.
