Arizona Chickens

If it hits the hatcheries, that would be terrible. All those people who want chicks would not be able to get any, or would have to pay a high price because of the scarcity of chicks. :(

I'd rather hatch my own, if only the girls in the small coop would get busy. Thanks to coyotes hanging around last night and again this evening, I only got one egg today.

It's impossible to keep the wild birds away.

I know what you mean. I'm done with hatching over here for a few month's, and when these Bielefelder's are old enough I have 3 little boy's to pick from. I can build onto my own flock when the time is right. I just hope that the cost of feed doesn't skyrocket.

Every time I stock up on feed I also get some sproutable seed (BOSS, millet, etc) which is just a treat right now. It could be planted to become their feed if absolutely necessary. I'm also soaking it and feeding it (as treats) soon.

That could work, as long as you keep anything away that might want to eat the seed's before they have a chance to grow for your flock. Some type of barrier?

Yes - I watch EdibleAcres on YT - he puts a sort of cage (like tiny hoop house) over top - I haven't got there yet but plan to. I have a few tiny hoop houses that are empty anyway - I have them just in case I need separate enclosures for any chickens.

Gabriel went to his new home today. She took one look at him and her eyes got big, and she said that as nice as he is, he's going to be living at her place for quite a while, barring predators. He will spend the night in a pen, and in the morning she plans to introduce him to her white Leghorn hen. Today was Gabriel's 8 month birthday, hope he enjoys it! :D

I forgot to add--she was running late, and we were meeting at a convenience store. I thought about taking Gabriel inside under my arm and claiming he is an emotional support rooster, and texted her about it. Never did it. Maybe next time.
Maybe next time? If you hatch again, it's guaranteed that you will get more boy's.
