Arizona Chickens

LareePQG - Your blog inspired me to get around to starting my own! Well, I mean, I had one, but it was just recipes. Now I have a bloggity blog!

YAY! Does this mean we can link to each other's sites and steal each other's recipes? [jumps and claps] This is going to be so much fun! I love new things!

If the neighbor doesn't want to come get that hen, you should SO show her the love!

AZDC--I am glad to see you are out there! I don't try to keep up either. Scanning, yes. I try to answer questions if I see them. Usually I lurk in the "Unanswered Posts" search thread, and try to help out the newbies. Their questions are easier.

ArizonaDesertChicks--That is such a pretty chicken!

TucsonTofu--I read your blog. Good stuff! Maybe someday I will start that. As for the stay, I say you just let your neighbor know where she is and that THEY are welcome to come catch her, but you will glad hold her as long as they need. I bet it will be too much trouble and you will get to keep her unless he is really attached to that one. Since she is so "chicken", I doubt it. And your little chick is so cute, but looks so funny with that silkie mama.

Last night I dreamed that my chickens were attacked my a huge owl. It was a silkie owl. HAHA!! It looked just like you would expect a silkie chicken mixed with an owl to look like. It was so fluffy that you couldn't see its eyes. It was just perched on the edge of my roof. The silkie rooster, Puff, was laying in the yard, but it turned out that he was just playing dead to trick the owl. Chick-a-pea and Fluffy Cheeks (the Amerauanas) were missing, and I just knew that owl had already eaten them. I was trying to figure out how I was going to tell my kids. I was a little upset, but not as much as I had exected. It was probably because I had decided to smuggle the whole flock plus three more and a giant pig into Mexico for the people in the neighborhood where I go work so they could eat them. My brain is a scary place.

The Lonely Only chick was eaten by a hawk a few minutes ago.

I was making cookies with my 2 year old and glanced out the kitchen window just as it flew out of the run.

It was his 2nd day out of the chicken house.

I hate nature.

Thanks for the compliments on my blog... I didn't make the background, but I love it!

I voted for you Laree!

5pinkarrows - I wish there really were silkie owls! I would have one and name it Hedwig! And then I'd let you send it to the Mexicans for dinner, since it ate your chickens.

Bleh. I'm sad. I try not to get attached to chicks because we seem to have an unusually high mortality rate. But, how can you not get attached to a lonely chick?

I HATE THAT HAWK TOO! I want to get it with a gun and bury it!

Dang girl, how am I going to get you some marans and ameraucanas!??

AzDC... I so wish you could have a roo. I'd bring over my splash Wheaten and then get hatching eggs from your ameraucanas.

I think your's are prettier than mine!

Tucson Tofu, that must have been a horrible sight! I'm so sorry, for you and and the poor chick.

Do you know what kind of hawk it was? It will be back! A few months ago when a Red Tailed hawk ate our resident Cooper's, it came back after my chickens almost immediately upon finishing its meal. Can you cover the run?

Gallo del Cielo - I had only seen it for a second, so I'm not sure what it was. I saw a red tail sitting on the telephone pole a little later, but I don't think the bird I saw was that big... I saw a raven (crow?) a little later. Would that have eaten a chick?

Either way, MAHONRI! You aren't supposed to want to kill the wildlife! You are supposed to... appreciate it, I guess.

LareePQG - I DO want more Aloha Eggs! And more of Mahonri's eggs! Even though I don't think I should be trusted with small creatures. How many chicks have I lost? It is ridiculous. I wish my big fluffy Oprington would go broody. She seems like she'd be a good mother hen.
