Arizona Chickens

Actually, this would be for chickens. :) I saw someone on here puts the quail cups on a 5 gallon bucket for their chickens.
Thanks!
The “quail cups” mentioned on the post you quoted are big enough for chickens but would work with quail. Here’s a pic for size. There are two types though. One has a yellow lever thing in it the birds have to peck. There’s another type that’s on a lever and when the cup is empty it automatically fills. I think I read that rent a hen offers the lever type that the birds don’t have to peck. I’m trying both options to see how they work out. Then all you need to do is put a big chunk of ice in the bucket to cool the water.

COOL WATER?

What do Arizonans (especially in the Valley) do (if anything) to keep their chickens drinking water ... uh...was going to say 'cool,' but maybe 'not hot' would be more appropriate.

The quail cups look great but I know that the water in the bucket would get very hot in summer. Do you add ice daily? Use drip lines? (I know they get hot too.)
Will chickens not drink water if it reaches a certain temp? Warm? Hot?

Right. Don't know the exact temp, but they prefer the colder/fresher. They'll actually die of thirst if the waterer is in the sun or otherwise too dirty or hot. Yes, too dirty--while they drink out of mud puddles that they've pooped in!
