Arizona Chickens

Okay so I got some lovely eggs from BlueBaby, and unfortunately surprise surprise our electricity was being worked on yesterday! I ran around the house like a chicken with its head cut off and made hot water bottles and put all eggies into an insulated box with the water bottles (bottles were wrapped in blanket to not burn anyone ).

Major mistake i guess because the box got to be 101- 102F for about 5 hours. Placed the babies back into the incubator as soon as the bator was back up to temp and holding steady.

Candled them last night to check that everyone was okay and ended up with 4 that blood ringed.

In total from day 1 of placing them ended up losing 6 from blood ring, 5 early quitters.

The other 12 babies are active in their shells! One especially which we are naming “Herbie” cause it zooms all over the inside of the egg like a little race car!

I will definitely be going and getting more hatching eggs from BlueBaby! Her babies are little race cars when they are happy and healthy… and don’t have surprise power outages for hours on end!

Well, I just hope your electric stay's on and they make it to hatch.

It should! We had a really bad breaker box on our house and I didn’t know it! They had to repair it and they had to fix the lines to the house to keep each from causing a fire. So since all new lines and breaker box it should be a heck of a lot safer!

I know what you mean. Arizona is pretty well known for having old outdated lines to things.

The whole house is a daisy chain of lines hooked together. So at some point (after the babies hatch!) we will have to have an electrician out to check the house wires too…

Liikkkee we have the bathroom, half the kitchen and one bedroom on the same circuit on the breaker box..

I am in the same boat- looking to buy clean and safe coffee ground bedding. I can’t find an online source. Our tractor supply does not have it.
Can you ask your local Starbucks for their grounds like others were suggested in doing?

I would think that as long as the grounds are mixed with something else like sand or dirt they would be less likely to eat them. Also unless they are sitting and eating the grounds actively, they should be safe!

Okay soooo question! My house hen was just taking a carpet bath when she stood up and stared straight at me making the longest quavering whine I have ever heard. Is this her trilling?

This is the second time since I got her that she has ever made that sound. The other time was while snuggling in my lap while I was watching a cartoon and singing along with the opening song.
