Arizona Chickens

I used these two… one the first week and the other the other week.

I thought they had mum oil but I was wrong, I wanted something natural that wasn’t actual poison poison that we would have to worry about the girls eating something and dying cause of it

. But after using them only once a week on the coop and twice a week on the birds, I was mite/lice free and they haven’t gotten them since 🥰
Thanks' for sharing in case someone else here might need some.

Of course! I try to use stuff that is as natural as possible.

I tried growing rosemary, oregano, citronella and a few other plants around the outside of the prefab run, but the moment they were allowed out to free range everything was free game 🤣🤣🤣

I had asked TSC if my chickens would eat rosemary knowing full well the other plants were gonna be on the menu as it was and they said no 🥲🥲 all ten of my rosemary plants seasoned the inside of my chickens before I was ready to cook them.

So how did that Rosemary Chicken taste ???:old

You already know that chickens can eat HOT PEPPERS, and do not react to the capsaicin. So with that knowledge,, you can have Buffalo wings instantly.

Oooops,, I may have misspoke without researching the facts correctly.

Do you all do anything by way of routine to prevent parasites etc? I've read of DE & ACV but have never used either.

I don't have any issues, just wondering. My chickens do take dust baths (inside & outside the run). I've not medicated them or anything either.
I ask the neighbors for pumpkins after the end of October in return for farm fresh eggs. They love to eat the seeds and flesh. People say they get rid of parasites naturally.

I do dust with de periodically. Not as a bird dust though unless I see mites/lice...that's very rare. I turn the dirt in my coops periodically because I believe it keeps it cleaner/healthier and I do dust crevices in wood with de. I use it sparingly though...just the crevices. Seems to work at any rate. I don't give acv regular either. I tried using it myself and felt sick from too much, lol. So again, acv is something I use if I see anything that suggest it would be helpful.
I also use wood ask in a few areas in our run. They can eat it as well.

Our flock run has Arabian lilac and Mexican elderberry. They do not eat either of these. I will go get photos and do a post in a bit.

Good morning duck and chicken friends! We planted a Mexican elderberry and Arabian lilac in our duck run. Both give the deep shade they need during the heat of the summer. They do not eat either, except the yellow/white flowers and fruit that falls from the elderberry. Both are like bushes so they do not go up into the interior and can grow 20x20 but you can trim into small trees. The lilac is a weepy type while the elderberry is upright. Both grow fast in the summer and do well in our soil. The elderberry needs more water, but we repurpose the duck water in the run and throughout the other gardens on our property. I use the flowers for our "city farm" homestead bouquet herbal tea. (cross posting on the Free Plant N Garden Stands Org forum here on "how to"harvest the flowers) if you would like a cutting of either message me. We do plan on doing a plant n seed exchange in Tucson, end of September. All the locations will be posted on our website on which gardening stands we are going to, hopefully by the end of July.

If I remember right, didn't you also mention before you disappeared for a while that you grow duck weed too?
