Arizona Chickens

Talk about your cat reminded me of mine when I first brought the two chicks home.... :D

I don't trust our cat to not get too interested in them. But they're growing so fast they'll soon be too big for her!

The red light of dooooommmm cause it’s on my baby tortoises and angled so the new babies in the brooder get some heat too when they aren’t not out getting into trouble lmao

This is how my cat is when it comes to the babies. I wish I had gotten a pic yesterday when they were all over the poor cat and pulling out his loose fur all over my bed. Looked like Binx exploded everywhere!

I also use wood ask in a few areas in our run. They can eat it as well.
Like the sound of wood ash ❤️
Our flock run has Arabian lilac and Mexican elderberry. They do not eat either of these. I will go get photos and do a post in a bit.
I have a Mexican elderberry planted and wondering how long it took you to get fruit? This is its second year and only flowers, no fruit so far.
I hadn't thought to offer cuttings, but if anyone wants elderberry, mulberry, duckweed etc...I have plenty to share. I have a wide variety of pond plants and desert hardy plants that grow well from cuttings or division. Seems like everything under the sun loves to eat duckweed.

Great idea! Never would have thought of that. We frequently burn yard/tree debris. Now I know what I can do with some of that ash.

We just planted 3 Arabian lilac on the south side of our run a couple months ago. They were specifically recommended (by Jackrabbit Nursery) as appropriate for being around chickens. Can't wait to see the plants grow as fast as I've heard they grow.

That's generous of you. What part of AZ are you in?

if you would like a cutting of either message me. We do plan on doing a plant n seed exchange in Tucson, end of September. All the locations will be posted on our website on which gardening stands we are going to, hopefully by the end of July.
Please do remind us here when you get the locations up on your website. In the meantime, perhaps we'll plan a weekend RV trip to Tucson end of September. Where in Tucson, roughly, will the exchange be? Is the date established yet?

Your cat sounds like a real sweetheart! What a softie!

@City farm lives over in Mesa, but she has those stand's all over. She might even have one of those over by you, or can help you to set one up maybe.

My chickens have preference of dust bathing in my fire pit. One morning,, I seen them dusting, as there were still hot embers on the far opposite side of firepit. Chickens raising dust on one end,,,,, and slight smoke from the other end. Funny as heck. :gig :yesss:
I host King Size fires,, so my fire pit is about 8 foot diameter.
Ash is ideal for dust bath areas. :thumbsup

As long as they don't get roasted in there, you should still be able to have egg's in the nest box the next day.
